May 6, 201511 yr @theguru needs to get busy and obtain some BGP naming rights for one of these new bowls.
May 6, 201511 yr As much as I will probably love watching these bowls, if you are 6-6 team you don't deserve a post season. I can remember a time where I watched almost all the bowls I could. Those days are long gone. I just don't have a huge amount of interest in watching mediocre teams play.

That's where I am. When I was in college, I'd sit in my parents' basement or at friends' houses when I was home on Christmas break and watch every single game. Every year that's gone by since, my interest has waned. Sometimes it's hard for me to tell whether it's a function of time or interest, but I know I'm still watching a little bit of TV at night during that week between Christmas and New Year's Eve, but it's almost never on college football.

Ummm..Some of those mediocre Bowl Games were more exciting than a few of the top BCS blowouts. It's just a matter of how much you love the game and watching the athletes play. Some 6-6 teams play really tough schedules and may lose two or three games by a minor point differential. That doesn't mean they can't play an entertaining meaningful bowl game. If the money is there, use it. jmo

That doesn't always bear out, but I'd bet on the likelihood of seeing a great game between top teams versus one from mediocre ones. I didn't say they can't, just that I wouldn't expect it. There are many, many more of those lower tier matchups and odds are at least some of them will be worthwhile. But I'm not going to sit through the snoozers to find the good one(s). Of the top tier bowl games last year, three of the seven were outstanding games (Fiesta, Cotton Bowl [the best of the bunch], and the Sugar Bowl). The Orange Bowl was fringe. The Rose Bowl was good until FSU folded up the tent in the second half, and the national title game was pretty strong until the midpoint of the final quarter. At least if I'm watching the top tier I expect to see good football. WKU/Central Michigan was exciting and I'm happy for WKU, but was it good football?
May 6, 201511 yr Some of the best games were the lower tier games...I love college football and for me the more the merrier. I'll watch as many as I can...you never know when a Marshall vs. East Carolina type game will break out where it was back and forth and just absolutely nuts, ending in a 64-61 win for the Herd.

But,to me all football is good football regardless of the tier IF I can get a chance to see football players make outstanding football plays, I'll watch it. The "Bowl" hoopla just adds a name to another opportunity to play an extra game. I say add the 3 and if so called football fans don't care to watch lower tier bowl games, they can easily catch Dancing With the Stars, The Voice, Dance Moms, or something else more entertaining..(lol..just a bit sarcasm…I'm missing my football way too much !!!)
May 8, 201511 yr If you watch a couple of 2-4 MAC teams play on a Tuesday night in front of 8000 freezing fans then a Bowl game with a pair of 6-6 teams is heaven.
May 8, 201511 yr Whether it is a good idea depends somewhat on how much of a financial guarantee the bowl organizers impose on the the two teams. In the recent past, universities have actually lost money going to bowls but have rationalized it as being good for the psyche of the program, school, etc.
May 10, 201511 yr This is just another "Hey everybody is a winner and gets a trophy" situation. Stupid.
May 10, 201511 yr This is just another "Hey everybody is a winner and gets a trophy" situation. Stupid. No it isn't. It's TV networks realizing that over the Christmas holiday people are looking for live sports to watch on TV. The worst bowl games outdraw almost everything else on TV. If ESPN couldn't make money on these games they wouldn't be hosting them. It has nothing to do with trophies.
May 10, 201511 yr And I'll add one more thing: If State U. plays Tech on a Tuesday afternoon in Detroit the day after Christmas, how does it affect you? No one is making you watch it. I've never understood why people complain about this.
May 10, 201511 yr Some of these bowl games I watched need to put cardboard cutouts of people in the stands and pipe in crowd noise. Might make it a little more interesting. :angrybird9: But I admit, I'll watch 'em 'cause I love college football and remember how it was when my son played his last football game ever. He didn't care who or how many were there to see, he just wanted that last feeling of being with his brothers playing the game that helped build him as a young man. And I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. That's what I think of when I watch these young men no matter what the bowl.
