I was under the impression Mercer was moving over to the old Harrodsburg field to play football but I rode by there the other day and while the new track looks great, it's obvious high school football won't be played at that stadium this year. Was I wrong? Is Mercer not moving?

Mercer County Titans Football Team

1. He won't check out. He wouldn't play if that was the case. Plus his teammates and coaches won't let him.

 

2. Mercer County won't be at .500.

 

Mercer plays 3 very good football teams in their first 4 games. They could easily be .500 by the end of the season. I'm 100% positive Buchanan knows how to handle football players, obviously. Look at Lofton and Miller, great football players,but their careers ended after their Jr. Year because they wanted to focus on Bball. Malik is a great athlete, and Mercer Co. Has title aspirations these next 2 years in basketball. I find it hard to believe his head will be 100% in football come October.

Lofton was an all state WR his senior year and played hard every Friday night up until the very end.

74 receptions for 1624yds and 20tds. I don't think Lofton was distracted with basketball. If I were a coach, I'd encourage my players to play multiple sports.

Just checked it out. Good stuff. Hope you can get on before the season ends!

I've been by several practices this year and I can tell this team is not only miles ahead of the team last fall, but they also seem to be having a lot more fun. I also don't think any kid 'checking out' will be a problem. The senior class isn't big but all six of them are really strong players. I don't see any worries of any of the kids 'checking out' regardless of the record in October.

Flatwoods.... the week we played the Red Devils every year, I think my staff set the over/under on how many times I would say "Flatwoods" through the week at about 40. I loved playing football there. We had some tough losses but we had some great games against great competition and first class people. I am a little different when it comes to my rivals. I have great respect when it is warranted and that certainly is the case when it comes to the Russell Red Devils. Great program and great people.

 

The left photo is Alvis Johnson field (old Harrodsburg HS) on June 29. To the right is August 3rd. We are hoping that a plan develops to get our bleachers worked out and we can play there before the season ends.

I would have loved to seen the Turf come in but you know you have to go with what they give you. Plus Coach we love listening to your son play the piano at church. That boy can play.

My daughter Emma got to meet Coach Johnson last week at the Car Wash, selling ads for the cheerleaders. Trosper is working out with Coach Dunn 3 days a week and enjoying every minute. The Harrodsburg/Mercer community has been great to my family since coming back and I really appreciate it.

Yes, he did. Dustin Grutza was a great QB. He had over 8,000 yards passing in HS and that was in a balanced offense.
