Hearing so many positive comments out of the Mercer program. Apparently there was a big turnout at the Friday night lights camp, 80 ish youngsters from what I was told. The freshman class has turned out a lot of numbers as well. Props to Coach B and the coaching staff for getting the young kids and community excited about their football program!

Thank you for the kind words. We do have 20+ freshmen out and are excited about them. Our varsity is in the low 30s but I am crazy about the kids. They are working and buying in to what we do.

As of today they have 3 of 5 offensive lineman back, their QB is healthy, their defense is pretty much back and 100% healthy and they have added Malik Dow and Alijah Mink to the team which gives them 3 receivers at over 6'3" tall that are also athletic in those two along with Treyvon Faulkner. Oh, and they also bring back Chase Moore at WR who also was hurt all of last season.

 

So, yeah, as long as they are healthy they should win around 8 games IMO. If not more. Coach B is going to have them ready to go.

 

This is overlooked... Chase was primed to have a breakout year, last year before being injured.

I just looked up his stats on khsaa. Chase had 2 receptions for 2 touchdowns and 105 yards for a 52.5 rec avg in his 1 full game. He was injured early in the next game. I would like to see him healthy for the entire season.

Glad to hear the freshman team has so many out. With 30 players- how many will be playing both sides?

I believe Treyvon Faulkner decided not to play this year. Alijah Mink quit. Not to be negative, but just trying to be accurate. If my info is incorrect, let me know. But still good talent (if not depth) at the skill positions. QB Drew Davis RB - Braxton Bradshaw, Dee Smith, Grayson Blevins WR - Malik Dowell, Chase Moore, Dustin Baker, Christian Crawley. I hear the line will be a bit undersized, but should be improved from last year. Should be a competitive year IF the Titans can stay healthy.

I'm hearing good things about Christian Crawley.

Not true. I believe if he starts the season playing football he can't just quit to go play basketball when basketball practice starts. If he quit football in October I think the way it goes is that he can't attend basketball practice until the football season ends.

I'm not saying he'll quit, but there is a lot of excitement this year with the Bball team. If Mercer Co. is at .500 he'll mentally check out.

We have 34 kids, 10-12 and another 24 freshmen. I like their effort and attitude. We are getting alot done and making progress, and we also know we will play some very good teams. I also like our staff alot. Malik is there and working hard. I am crazy about him and have no reason to doubt his commitment.

 

One of my favorite phrases during this time of year is "cautious optimism." There are many reasons to be excited about the potential of this team and season. We know we have to develop some depth and we are working on that. We need to stay in the "one day at a time" mode and just work to improve each day.

 

Something a little different than normal..... me adjusting to being in a new place after 19 years at Mason has been tougher than I expected. I have to "THINK" about everything.... where we practice, how we practice, where our stuff is, etc. As I work through that, these kids and coaches have been super. Today, we practiced on the gamefield, practice field, then the storms hit and we headed inside to the complex/turf . We had a great day and got a lot done. We had alot of adjusting along the way but I thought the kids and coaches adapted very well.
