I tried to tell you guys Calloway would be hard to beat. Region 1 is criminally underrated every year. Game in region 1 is played in the lane much more than the three point line and so it is no surprise they shot a lot of free throws. Same with McCracken and Wayne last year. Calloway will give Bowling Green all they want also.

Region 1- has 15 wins now in the last 20 years at the State Tourney. Tying them with Region 3 for 10th out of 16!

Not overly under rated!!

Knott shoots 12-17 fts 30 teams fouls and 1 tech

Calloway 32-42 fts. 17 team fouls

It's very difficult to win when you get outscored by 20 from the charity stripe.

15 of Calloway's last 19 points came from the foul line. They literally did not hit a shot and only registered one attempt in the first overtime. Shot 42 free throws to 17 for Knott County Central.

Well several of the fouls were intentional to save the clock while trailing. Only chance was to foul and hope they missed. And that was in regulation, first overtime and second overtime. When you get behind a team that can handle the ball you dont have any other choice.

I really thought it was a good game. I thought KCC got away from going inside and then all the sudden remembered late. Calloway band bus should get home in time for school in the morning only to turn around and come back at the end of the school day.

Where is PurplePride92 when you need him... According to his theory, these wins in the State tournament don't amount to much in regards to the Top 25 rankings in the State. If that is the case, why do we even have a State Tourney?

I was driving home from Rupp. Now I'm watching Scandal.

Did the Sweet 16 have the top 16 teams in the state playing in it? Meaning, were the 16 teams in the Sweet 16 tourney the 1-16 tanked teams in the state? I'll get back to Scandal and wait for your answer.

Happy for the Calloway kids. I know Skyler Hunter and his family very well. His dad asked me what I thought before the game. I told him if they didn't come out scared to death of playing at Rupp, they would have a chance. When they led after the first quarter, I thought they would be in it all the way.

I do believe I was 1 of only 2 people to pick Calloway on the preview thread. A well coached group of kids with high basketball IQs always has a shot.

On a side note, will BB King stick around for a rebuild?

First, I do think the officiating was very poor. There were many bad calls, some against Calloway but more against Knott. I wouldn't go so far as to say there was something shady going on. I'm not a conspiracy theorist and won't feed those fires. I thought the shorter, white official called a good game. I think he is one of the best officials in the state. The African American official was...eh. The tall white guy...I'll just say I've seen him have better games.

As for the actual game I thoight Knott was way too passive in the first half. By allowing Calloway to hang around and run some clock on offense I thought they really contributed to Calloway's belief that they could win. They relied too much on Justice to create on his own. Which I'll add, he was amazing tonight. When I watched Knott dismantle Lincoln Co the rest of the Patriots outside the big two were very active without the ball and they shared it well. Getting layups for Cornett and quite a few open jumpers for Combs. There was little to none of this tonight.

I also thought Knott made a mistake by having Hall guarding his man on the perimeter the first 3 quarters of the game or so. Eventually they had him say off and protect the rim. If he had been doing that earlier in the game it would have deferred many Calloway's drives and rejected many others that weren't deterred.

In the end, Calloway played well, had a good plan, and won. I was hoping Knott would win, especially the was Justice was playing. It would have been great to see what kind of magic he could have created had they made it to Saturday or Sunday.

Unbiased opinion and some thoughts

The refs were terrible, the tall one must of had a grudge on KCC. Some though would say there was a no call on the CC player at the end of the first OT.

Maybe someone can correct me but Evan Hall had maybe 4 or so points? going into the 4th quarter. No one else stepped up on KCC it felt like.

Cam Justice I thought had some costly turnovers too, late into the game. Calloway also hit a big 3 with 30secs left in the 4th to tie it. If Justice is in a the end 2nd OT they win, I thought Justice DID push off pretty hard on the foul, but the wrong ref made the call. KCC had 3-4 pretty good shots to win the game in 2nd OT and didn't connect and that was the game in a nutshell for KCC.

The local news typical calls this South Central Kentucky but typically the region gets lumped in with WKY. Back when there were football conferences Bowling Green played in the WKY conference. Good enough for me.

Then who named the local University WKU?! Should have called it SCKU. :sarcastic:

It should be called Bowling Green, but that one was already taken.

And EKU should be called CKU.

And EKU should be called CKU.

And then Morehead could be EKU. Of course then no one could have "I ❤️ Morehead" shirts.

And EKU should be called CKU.

Once again....Richmond...but that one it taken, too :lol2:

Addition to that how long will Birdsong stick around for a rebuild?

Birdsong has taken 2 different teams to the Sweet 16 in the past 3 years, both of them was a class with 6+ seniors and possibly the best basketball classes at each school. But how long will he stay there and rebuild???
