March 16, 201511 yr You heard that on BGP on March 3 at 9:30 PM. :thumb: We've been calling that shot for a while...
March 16, 201511 yr It's not like D1 basketball recruits are a dime a dozen here in NKY. A couple go D1 every year, but I've said it before, there has to be mutual interest on both sides. I really don't think think NKU is the first place top NKY players are thinking about. Dave's a real good dude and I've know him since our kids played together when they were younger. Hopefully he'll land somewhere. Spot on. I think this was talked about in another thread last year. On average the whole state doesn't produce a lot of d1 recruits. I believe the average is somewhere around 7-9 per year get offered d1 scholarships.
March 16, 201511 yr With John Brannen most likely out after Alabama finishes in the NIT, I could very well see his name in the mix.

I believe the average is somewhere around 7-9 per year get offered d1 scholarships. Yep. I've talked about this specifically in baseball, but the same applies to basketball, and probably even more so. NKU seems to get dinged pretty hard for not recruiting a ton of KY kids. It doesn't seem to bother anyone that Calipari doesn't exactly have a bunch of KY kids on UK's roster. For the record they both have 2 KY kids listed on their rosters (and the evil Rick Pitino has 3) If Bezold had recruited and signed more KY kids, this thread probably would have taken place a few years earlier. Coaches get paid to win, not to provide roster spots to local kids. The world is not crawling with D1 athletes...NKY is no different.
March 16, 201511 yr NKU needs to recruit locally to get people to come to the games though. Just think they could have the following kids play their. Ruthsatz Hatton Bolden Zack Tobler Antonio Campbell Henderson Richardo Johnson Elijah Pittman
March 17, 201511 yr NKU needs to recruit locally to get people to come to the games though. Just think they could have the following kids play their. Ruthsatz Hatton Bolden Zack Tobler Antonio Campbell Henderson Richardo Johnson Elijah Pittman Sure they are nice players. And I'm guessing Dave talked to most of them. Pittman is probably the best of the bunch, but likely would have had the same issues at NKU that he had elsewhere. And those guys might move the attendance needle slightly, but if they don't win games, the people stop coming. And none of those guys are helping them win anymore games, or at least enough to make a difference. How many UC games have you been to see Tobler play?? Or are you making a couple of trips up to Oxford to see Campbell?? Do you really think they start selling that building out just by recruiting local kids?? UK ain't getting a bump in attendance because they have Dominique Hawkins.

March 17, 201511 yr Author How long was he at NKU? 1990 - 2004 as an Asst with Ken Shields. Then he took over as the Head Coach and has been since.

March 17, 201511 yr 1990 - 2004 as an Asst with Ken Shields. Then he took over as the Head Coach and has been since. For a time under Shields, he was an unpaid assistant, and had to coach the women's tennis team to draw a salary.
March 17, 201511 yr This job only pays $117k. Will they up the pay rate and go after a "bigger fish"? Yes. They have a much larger figure earmarked for future coach. They also have a LARGE donor lined up if a certain guy is hired.
March 17, 201511 yr With John Brannen most likely out after Alabama finishes in the NIT, I could very well see his name in the mix. He'll no doubt go after it. Was in the mix last time, but he was not nearly as experienced 11 years ago.
March 17, 201511 yr They're not getting anyone big with 117k. Expect that to jump SIGNIFICANTLY if they're at all serious.
