Dave Bezold Out As NKU's Coach

Featured Replies

I'm sure those teams would do well, but not destroy. Afterall Mercer beat Duke last year and Florida Gulf Coast went to the sweat 16 the year before.

Those are top 60 teams in the nation. The A-SUN doesn't have any teams in the top 130 right now.

I watched Valpo and NKU in person this season...two different animals.

The competition isn't close to the same. One is the 16th best league in America, one is the 30th. Who cares about the weather? You think Wright State is going to bring more fans (theirs and NKU's) than Kennesaw State? You think Valpo will generate more buzz locally than North Florida? The leagues are dramatically different, there is far less travel in the Horizon, and they would be competing with regional programs in and around their footprint.

I never said they shouldn't be in the Horizon League, it makes sense financially with less travel. I just said I would rather travel south than north during the winter to watch them play.

Your correct in saying that Wright State would bring more to a game than Kennesaw St. but there's not much Northern KY interest. There's not a team in the Horizon League that the casual N. KY fan is excited to see.

I'd love to see John Brannen at NKU

Moving on from Bezold was not a bad decision. Seems like a really nice, good guy. Coaching-wise, IMO, he's just "ehh"...

This.

What D1 schools have they been going to?

Thats my point! Everyone wants to bash KY schools for not recruiting locally more. There just isnt the talent in KY to sustain a D1 Program in any sport.

Some fans would rather the teams suck and be made up of KY kids than be good and have guys from all over. :idunno:

I"ve heard two names so far. One was the Xavier assistant mentioned earlier. The other was a Cincy assistant.

Yep that's exactly who I heard this evening.

I heard that from another Division I coach.

Do you think this was strictly a wins and loss decision? If so, do you think they will be looking at other sports not doing so well?

Don't think that was a big factor, but that's just pure speculation on my part.

I know we have thrown out several guys locally or with local connections, but the AD came from somewhere in Wisconsin if I remember right. Maybe he'll pull some other strings and bring in someone we aren't that familiar with.
