Ashland joins ranks of schools looking for coach

Featured Replies

I don't believe you do, I wasn't directing that statement at anyone in particular. I agree about kids these days not having the drive that they used to have, that's a topic for another thread. The reason I dismiss that excuse when someone uses it for coach Biggs however is because it is what it is, its not just a problem at Ashland, everyone deals with it, so imo its not an excuse.

That is true about everybody dealing with it, that`s why I said earlier . If he is fired may be he will learn from his mistakes , and do better at his next job.

Downhill yes, no doubt about it. Zero regional championships during Bigg's tenure is a long time without a championship compared to previous coaches. The worst start and worst season in school history speaks volumes by itself, but when you factor in everything else, yes, I believe the program is in much worse shape than it was when he was hired.

People can claim that the talent level is down, kids are soft these days, etc. But those are just excuses along with some people turning a blind eye because they would love to see Ashland fail, which is understandable. What it all boils down to is that if you can't win 10 games at Ashland in a season, can't win a regional title in 10 years, then your obviously doing something wrong.

Losing your best player to an injury and your 2nd best player to a transfer (out of the area) isn't an excuse it's a reality.

Please tell me in which year during Buddy Bigg's tenure did he have the best team in the region?

I understand the need for a change, this season was ugly and it's hard to survive that. But to say the program as progressively slide is inaccurate. The key word is progressively, this was the first season in the Bigg's era that Ashland didn't reach the regional semis. That is not a progressive decline.

I'm not familiar with the situation at Ashland but I'm familiar with their tradition. Winning high school basketball program in Kentucky history that is impressive! Unfortunately in today's society, it is what have you done lately. Having the worst year in Ashland history is tough. Regardless of what happens I wish the best for Ashland and Coach Biggs.

X's and O's,

Just because somebody is available doesn't mean they are interested or willing. The grass is not always greener.

YOU talking Ashland or Greenup. I`m Greenup, don't know if it could get much worse..

And just saying who I`d like , I don't get to pick and it happen. And I like Biggs at Ashland, should get at lest 1 more year.

I have heard a lot about Biggs running off talent actually, Quinton Baker is an example of that he didn't want to play for him.

I've heard rumors about them contacting Brandon Baker for the position. I don't think he would leave East Carter but he used to be affiliated with Ashland at one point.

Not a chance on Baker.

Adam Howard

Evan Faulkner

How about Thacker at Rowan?

True not Wheelersburg but they are very similar, both have great tradition and win a lot year in and year out.. Every thing I`ve herd about coach Biggs and what`s been going on at Ashland , sounds just like what I herd about Coach Barrick and Wheelersburg. Just pointing out it`s very similar , and hasn't worked out real good for Wheelersburg . I know you want Biggs out, I feel he should keep his job. If he does go , hope it works out for Ashland, just not when they play Greenup.

Wheelersburg has made two great tournament runs under Coach Ater. And look for them to be really good in the next few years with a talented 8th grade class on the way.

Not a chance on Baker.

Where is Evan Faulkner at now? Is he coaching somewhere? He would make any school a great coach.

He is waiting to take over Elliott.

He is waiting to take over Elliott.

How long will that be before that job comes open?

Hard to believe nobody's making a run at Greg Adkins. He is clearly one of the top 2-3 coaches in the 16th. Coached this year's Elliott County team into region championship and was a big part of the prior 3 championships.

Has Buddy Biggs officially been let go by Ashland ??

yes
