I think a wise move by any coach that has any desire to stay there for any length of time is to invest in the youth leagues. Invest his time and be present there. Someone needs to attempt to change the culture there, IMO. I'd try my best to encourage my young kids to play in the summers. AAU provides extra time developing their games. Baseball does it. Perhaps you'd win some of those kids who will chase other avenues of sporting interest if you encourage them to stick with hoops. The head coach will have to work, like Sunshine says, but I'd advise him to be willing to invest his time to the whole program. Ashland has far too long relied on transfers. I won't beat that horse, but they have plenty of kids that transfers should be a bonus, not the crux of the team.

Since 2000 here is break down of regional championships.

Elliott has 4 (2015)

Rowan has 3 (2012)

Fleming has 2 (2013)

Ashland has 2 (2002)

Boyd (2000), East (2010), Morgan (2004), Rose Hill (2003) & Russell (2006) all have 1.

The footing is much more equal than in the past. Ashland will not dominate like they have in the past. To say "they have to/should win a regional title every "X" number of years" is not realistic. There are a number of programs ahead of Ashland at this point, and I don't think the climb back will be quick at all.

It is very realistic to expect Ashland to win a regional title every 8 years. Last time I checked Ashland has received far more transfers into the program the last 15 years than they did the previous 15 years. The 16th region is an extremely weak region, and there's no reason for Ashland not to be able to win a title every 8 years.

If the 16th is so weak, then Ashland is in real trouble. The Rowan championship years and Flemin years were not that weak. Some nice talent on both sides. Which is exactly why it is unrealistic to say "win a region every X number of years or else". Lots of kids concentrate on one sport now and you lose those kids when their sport isn't basketball. Combine that with the other factors I've mentioned and, at least to my thinking, its unreasonable. And another thing, Ashland will NOT find a better X and O guy than Biggs.

Sure the region has had a couple of good teams the last several years, but more often than not the region is very weak. This year was a perfect example, and is the norm for the 16th region.

Show me where I one time said it was the great job it once was? I'll 100% agree it's not. That still doesn't mean Ashland shouldn't win a region title every 8 years. They still have had the talent to do that.

What year did they ever have the best team? Just think losing Coach Biggs will hurt the program unless new coach brings in some players. I guess we shall see.

I agree. Most talent doesn't always translate into best team. That's where Biggs fell short.
