Your statements about "winning a region in 8 years" and "11 regions in those 36 years " are clear proof, at least to me, you believe this Ashland to be the Ashland of old.

 

You asked a RHETORICAL question about the number of MS games he attended as if it was some indictment upon him. How involved do you want him to be? Is he supposed to attend every practice and game to build a program? Most places, the HS coach has some input as to who runs his MS program. He then trusts that person to do the things he wants. Admittedly, most do attend a few MS games but the ones I know don't put a ton of stock in merely attending games to build a relationship with kids. They do that in open gyms (inviting MS kids to participate) or camps. After all the HS coach has a family and a day job to deal with as well.

You made the ludicrous comparison of Dean Smith winng only 3 national championships in 36 years to the Ashland. I pointed out that Smith had won 11 regional championships in 36 years. Had nothing at all to do with Ashland.

I saw Coach Biggs at some 7th grade games this year. Just saying.

Plenty of college coaches are judged upon winnign regional championships. Only a few select schools are judged on winning National championships. The only pot stirrer I'm seeing is Mr. Viking. Perhaps he should worry about if Rowan County.

Now your just talking in circles. You brought up Dean Smith, saying he only won two national championships in 36 years. A national championship in college would be equal to a state championship in high school. A regional championship in high school, would be the equivalent of a conference championship in college. To think otherwise is just plain silly.

Perhaps you're right. I see your point. But the fact remains that the expectations at Ashland are unrealistic IMO. That's the whole gist of this conversation.

Ashland is no different than any other job now a days in the respect that there are always going to be those in a community who think their school can find a better coach.The last 3 Tomcat Coaches are all really good coaches. I think Flynn and Breeden were fortunate enough to leave before their time ran out

That's your opinion, which you are certainly entitled to. As I tend not to argue with walls very often, I think I'll just leave it at that.

I'm hearing Sheldon Clark's Frank Smith II as the top choice to be Ashland's new coach.

 

I was told today on good authority that he turned them down.

 

Some other names floating around. A couple that would be very solid hires.

I understand the firing but to say he was too demanding is a crock. He's been the same way for 9 years. If that's the reason why did it take so long? Just say he lost 20 some games and it's time to go in a new direction. To me the problem is Biggs could have lost the confidence of those involved and thats understandable. I will say this, I thought Ashland improved quite a bit between Christmas and the district tournament.
