I always liked coach Dodd. I hadn't heard anything about him in years. Is he coaching anywhere currently or is he semiretired? I think he would make someone a good coach but do have some concerns. The main concern would be how long would he stick around before retiring. Also how involved would he be with the feeder systems. I don't doubt his coaching ability one bit, but sometimes (not all the time) coaches that are close to retirement don't get fully involved with all aspects of the program.

 

Coach Dodd is planning to coach another 10 years, at a minimum. This is his hometown and he had planned to retire to this area. He is not looking for a stepping stone as he is already an NAIA Hall Of Fame coach. He has found that he enjoys teaching high school kids the most. :thumb: He has been at Hillwood High School in Nashville since leaving Russell and finished this season at 20-4. At one point, they were ranked 4th in the state. They were upset in their district. And yes, he has applied...:popcorn:

It sounds like he would be an excellent choice. I've always thought he is an excellent coach and i really liked his teams at Russell. I have no idea who else Ashland may have in mind, but coach Dodd would be an excellent choice.

Ashland has sent the hiring squad to reached out to Elijah Justice. I think he is waiting on Shelby valley job.

So who all have turned Ashland down? Why do you think that is? In the past it seems like before firing a coach a school like Ashland would have a " short" list of candidates. Has Ashland exhausted its list?

Here, I'll just post the resume' and highlight the Big Sandy years.

 

02/03 15-15. Did manage to eek out a district title in a poor district but with Russell kids.

03/04 17-11. Was the beneficiary of the OJ debacle at RH. VanHoose, and Blair migrate to Russell as frosh. I won't debate the circumstances. Just that they relocated.

04/05 18-13. Did win the district with the best soph class in the region.

05/06 18-14. Those juniors managed to win him the region. Not a terrific reg season, but great post season. Got white washed in the first round at Rupp.

06/07 27-5. Added Austin Robinson from RH with the others and great season. Lost 2nd game of region.

07/08 3-26. Back to reality without any transfers.

I didn't even mention the other transfers like Schweitzer.

 

Now can he do well when the cupboard is full? But at Ashland, the cupboard ain't. Now, from this resume' am I supposed to be impressed with his program building? Again, I think Ashland needs someone who can invest in their kids and their program and build it up and not have the administration breathing down his back the first two years. I think they need to be realistic and patient with whomever they think can do the job.

Loony no, uniformed, absolutely. I don't recall mentioning that food was on the lunch menu.

I think I showed very clearly that I'm well informed. I'm not delusional like some. And how about that strong performance in the regional semis blowing a 10pt 4th qtr lead to Blazer? Maybe too informed?

Ashland is looking for a youngster, it seems and Coach Dodd has two NAIA offers,: if he decides to leave Nashville. So everyone wins.:popcorn:

Please, who are you trying to convince. I was at every Russell practice for 5 years as well as the games. I don't recall you ever being involved in one of our practices. Have a good life! I'm done here.:eyeonyou:
