Ashland joins ranks of schools looking for coach

Featured Replies

Smith would be a very interesting hire if it would happen? I know the big knock on Biggs was his lack of Regionals titles. Would the Ashland faithful be happy with this hire?

I believe Biggs was in the Regional finals 4 times with no titles. How many Regional titles does Smith have? I believe he was in the regional finals once at Sheldon Clark. Any regional titles before his time at Clark?

State title at Tug Valley, WV. and was DI assistant at Miami of Ohio and head coach at Saginaw Valley State.

Well, I think the Ashland faithful would be impressed with that resume! Obviously that would be a good het for Ashland.

Any news out of Tomcat Land?

I've heard that the powers that be, may be interested in bringing in a veteran coach of the 16th Region's past. Could be just rumor, but who knows. All I know is that as a longstanding Tomcat fan there is no reason why we shouldn't be competing for a Region Title every year.

Heard that Smith is going to interview Tuesday and I am hearing its his job to turn down.

Not a chance.

Would that veteran coach be ... Roger Zornes? Only veteran 16th coach I can think of.

I'm not sure Zornes is even in the area anymore. I have no idea who the 16th legend would be but if its true that the Sheldon Clark coach is applying for the job, I imagine its his

Zornes is an excellent coach. I'd be shocked to see him on that sideline.

Was told at the State tournament that Ashland had already spoken with Coach Smith, and he will remain a Cardinal.

If Smith has turned down the opportunity then who is next up? I still believe in Ashland being a premier job in this part of the state, there has to be some interest from outside. As quite as it has been about who will be taking the reigns it makes this longtime Tomcat a bit nervous, it won't be long until building up plans for summer are in order for our program.

It will take some work for whoever is the coach next year at Blazer.

Just for the sake of conversation, What about this job makes it premier? Back a few years ago I would agree with Ashland being a premier job "Ashland Oil and ARMCO" to name a couple of reasons, but what makes it prmier now?
