Hard to believe nobody's making a run at Greg Adkins. He is clearly one of the top 2-3 coaches in the 16th. Coached this year's Elliott County team into region championship and was a big part of the prior 3 championships.

 

That is what I was thinking as well. He's a good coach from my watching.

I think so too, It is Ashland, and a past of a lot of winning. Should help, but Biggs had a really good regular season and post record. Sounds like the next guy better be nice to the kids, win in regular and post season`s, , Regional tittles every 2 or 3 years.. And hope a kid doesn't move, best player get hurt, and lose 25 games with not much talent.... Guess that's not much to ask for. I really hope it work`s for them, I`m a Greenup fan , but I also like good basketball. And see kids do well and move on if that have a chance , Just lose to Greenup as much as possible .

Sounds about right to me. That said, Biggs was nice to and loved his kids, I have no doubt about that. There were just some other issues that ran some of the kids off, the man is just strong in his beliefs, some may go as far as calling it stubborn.

I would say most of us can be stubborn, with something we strongly believe in. I know I am. Good luck to Coach Biggs and Ashland. My be this can be a learning moment for Biggs, for the next job.

I wish him the best of luck. Unless the right job opens up it sounds like he's staying put here in the Ashland area though. He is still teaching at Ashland and has rooted his family in. From the sounds of things he's not willing to move unless a great opportunity comes around.

IF that is true about only wanting a great opportunity, I don't much care for that. Me personally I would take almost any job asap, for the " I`ll show you" fact. Waiting for the great job makes me thinks he feel`s ,, he`s to good for any lessor for say programs. I would want to show them what they lost.. But maybe that's just me.

To be fair, his family is rooted into the local community and he has stated his wife has a great job. I don't know where his wife works, but her salary may negate whatever stipend he would receive for coaching basketball somewhere else, he is still teaching at Ashland.

 

Ashland pays their people pretty well, so I can understand the reasoning of not accepting the first job that comes along and packing up and moving the whole family. I can also see him moving and taking on another job, but I think it has to be the right job for him and his family.

You have a very good point. I was just thinking in terms of Basketball, not family and every thing that goes with it. Moving , wife job, and his pay. thanks for in site.

I don't think Biggs' methods or rules were the problem especially in the areas of how you practice and how you dress and look. I think his stance on athletes that play other sports is what eventually cost him athletes. He believed that basketball came first and trumped all other. If there was a conflict in scheduling the kid was punished for not choosing basketball. He would not make an exception when it came to kids that had opportunities to play another sport after high school. I saw this with Withrow and Salow. My guess is the athletes that aren't playing now recognized this and chose not to be singled out because they had other interests.

Any names associated with this job yet? I know it just opened up on Monday but I was wondering if Ashland was going to do a quick hire like Russell HS. By what I've been told Russell did well with their hire.

I'm hearing Sheldon Clark's Frank Smith II as the top choice to be Ashland's new coach.

Smith would be a very interesting hire if it would happen? I know the big knock on Biggs was his lack of Regionals titles. Would the Ashland faithful be happy with this hire?

 

I believe Biggs was in the Regional finals 4 times with no titles. How many Regional titles does Smith have? I believe he was in the regional finals once at Sheldon Clark. Any regional titles before his time at Clark?
