10th Region Draw

Featured Replies

Why not? They would be the visiting team. This is the regional tourney. They or their fans should not be treated any different than the other teams and fans.

Personally I like sitting on the other side. I can watch the benches, sometimes they are more fun to watch than the game, but that is not the point.

Should be some great games this year. Will we see some upsets again this year like we did MoCo last year?

Here we go again......

Jeez. Talk about first world problems.

Looking forward to visiting the Fieldhouse no matter where anybody sits. As long as I have my cushion and some popcorn, of course.

Good luck to all teams. I'm going with the Camels!

I think Mason County will win the Region. Experience or not in the Tournament they have the best "Team" and if it gets close, the home court will be the difference.

Mason County will never, ever sit on the other side.

Just like in Baseball. If Harrison County or any other team hosts the Region, they can be the Visitor on the scoreboard, but they will not give up their dugout.

In 2010 i believe Clark was the "home" team on the scoreboard didnt MaCo sit on the other side that night? Memory is a little fuzzy but i thought thats how it was. :idunno:

You are correct. Mason sat on visitors bench in 2010, Clark was home team and chose to sit on home bench, but as we know that didn`t work Mason won 62-60 in a very good game.

Mason walks to the regional final to face CC

:sssh::facepalm:At least the last two years this was not a discussion, I wonder way!!!

I don't think there's any advantage or disadvantage to where either team sits. I understand the argument because one is the home bench and one is the visitor's bench and you should follow the setup of the tournament but, at the same time I think it's all just any kind of attempt to make Mason County uncomfortable because they just happen to have the absolute best venue for the 10th region tournament. I will add though that where the student section is and where particular people sit should never be a factor and I don't think it would be. As for myself if I'm not calling an Augusta game from scorer's table #2 I want to be sitting at half court on the opposite side. Gotta love the unobstructed view of the floor.

Great vantage point.:thumb:

That's a guarantee.

This. But there will always be those who delight in doing so.

And believe it or not, many of them are friends. Again, it comes with the territory.

I do not delight in doing so, too may other things in life are more important. Just would like too see the tourney run the way a tourney should be with no special privileges to the home team or their fan. Don't think that would be too much to ask.

I am very proud to call you and many people from Mason Co my friends. This is just a topic we disagree on and that is fine. Just like home court advantage....:lol2:

BUT their student section was not moved and we all know how that came out. No student section should ever be behind the opposing teams bench.

This I agree with! I don't care who sits where, I can't believe there are over 2 pages of this topic but a student section sitting behind the opposing team is not right.

I seem to remember Fred Hester, who was the longtime tournament manager always making the statement that Mason County would use their own locker room, sit on their own bench and be the home team on the scoreboard for all games in the tournament that they competed in.

It seemed a common sense thing to do, and I do not remember anyone questioning it.

Curious why the subject has come up now. Was it discussed at the draw meeting????

I moved into the 10th region as a freshman and had no idea of the 'Feildhouse,' but even back then I always felt it was a huge home court advantage. In general, the Maysville area produces some of the best talent in the region, then they are gurenteed home court for the region, which include the creature comforts of not traveling, using 'their' locker rooms, and sitting on 'their' bench. I have always felt that if the region isn't going to rotate, then it should be on a neutral court. For years in the 10th that didn't happen, because the 'Feildhouse' was the largest arena, regardless of travel for other teams and the crappy parking. Turns out the regional tournament is also big business in most regions, not just in the 9th at the BOKC.

Gotta admit though, there's no atmosphere quite like the 10th Region at the Fieldhouse regardless of who's playing.

For those that aren't up to speed on their 10th region history. The regional tournament rotates by district each year. It's just that until recently, there was not a local venue that could accommodate the tournament. Montgomery County recently built a facility that can handle the event; so now the event is held there every four years when it is the 40th's spot in the rotation. 2016 is next. The event was held at the BOKC in 2009 when it was the 37th's turn to host, but (I think) a scheduling conflict rendered that facility unavailable in 2013, so the 37th elected to have the regional tournament at The Fieldhouse.

So there are now three venues that are equipped to host the event instead of only one. For decades, it was held exclusively at The Fieldhouse with one exception. Clark County hosted one time, decades ago. It was an unmitigated disaster and never attempted again.

I always get a kick out of the crying that ALWAYS happens this time of year. Right up there with death and taxes. I find it curious that the same complaints never arise in New Castle. For the life of me, I cannot understand why.
