Just when you think we are making progress in Football...

Remember, you can't self impose restrictions on your own school district and then complain that others won't do the same. The practice is not only stupid but it is un-American.

Admittedly, I am not fully educated on HS football, but I have always wondered why the football/baseball/softball playoffs are different than basketball playoffs. Is there a reasoning behind this?

Basketball does not always have the same row to hoe while football/baseball/softball seems to.

Dio, its still a numbers game for the high schools. For example Male plays players both ways, does X? They don't have to. They have kids in their system who willnot even dressout until their last year. I had a nephew who played at X so I know a little about their program also. X also has very good players whether or not they got the award "Mr.Football" thats over blown. Only one kid gets the award. Thats my point with Bama.

All... Remember I was there at Iroquois with 90 varsity kids. After busing 45 max. And I'm the only one who brought up busing. I've gone to the Raiders games all thru the 70s-80s-90s. The stats don't lie. Dead horse?

Is it a dead horse only because I bring up issues you don't want to address?

The stats don't lie. You are the one that brought up the whole "level playing field" in Jefferson County and yet you have not addressed just how the playing field is level between schools like Iroquois and Atherton when compared to schools like Male. I don't disagree that busing had a disastrous effect on many schools football teams BUT you avoided a key question I asked. Male was HORRIBLE the first few years of busing, so bad in fact that their coaching staff wanted to drop varsity football for a year but they have managed to rebound. Maybe, just maybe, the success that Male has managed to achieve has come at the expense of schools like Iroquois and Atherton because they are able to attract better students (and athletes).

Again I ask, if next year the private schools were taken out of the mix would Iroquois and Atherton suddenly get better or would they continue to get their brains beat in by schools like Male? How level is the playing field there? The stats don't lie.

The "level playing field" argument is fine but to use it you need to look at the whole picture not just the parts of it that you want to see.

I'm going back to my 1st post here questioning the source and validity of Mr. Fields' statement.

No one was quoted or cited as a source in that article so I wondered whether this was Mike's "opinion" or maybe one unnamed source?

Here's a snipet from the Friday CJ on the same subject:

In other business, Cope said, the board:

Discussed expanding the football playoffs from four classes to five or six and asked staff members to draw up possible alignments for examination at the May board meeting

My point is that CJ, THE Louisville paper, had a quote from Cope yet made ZERO reference to the Louisville schools impact on "possible alignments."

I just question the anxiety over this until we see what comes out in May.

To the issue itself; No matter how many teams Louisville has it just seems odd to split schools as close geographically into different "regions?" Super tough districts & regions have always existed in basketball - so what? You don't apportion by level of play - this isn't court mandated gerrymandering for equal rights is it?;)

The have nots forced the split years ago. As always, be careful what you wish for...

The reason Louisville has two regions is because we have almost twice as many schools then any other city in Ky.

Until the Public schools realize that the only way to end this on-going, rediculous, debate is to practice and work harder to get better and compete on the same level with the Trinitys and X's of the world, the problem isn't going away. They may rework the playoff system to get T and X to meet earlier, but then what is the next gripe? It isn't fair that one of those 2 always blasts the public schools in the final, so rework it again? It will just continue until they decide that the only way to win this game is to get better.

Next gripe will be that the Male, Manual and Ballard's are to good and that the playing field is not level!!! MARK MY WORD!!!!

Let me say at the start that I am not for a split of public-private, but I am for 6 classes in football.

South Laurel just lost a good coach to a public HS in AL. The difference down there is that the administrative and community support for football is fantastic. No one down there is complaining about private school dominance, regardless of the classification. Most communities in KY are either unwilling, unable, or don't know how to properly support a championship-level football team. The schools that do get the support they need can compete with and (sometimes) beat the private schools in the state. Highlands, Boyle, Beechwood, Danville, etc.

However, having said all of that, there still is a big discrepancy in 1A and 4A in enrollment that needs to be addressed, and six classes would help that situation somewhat. There is no magic bullet!!

The difference also is the head coach makes $80,000 - $100,000 to just be a football coach.

So you don't think public school kids work as hard as T or X? You honestly thing that is why they win almost every year. They work that much harder then everyone else.

According to a JEFFERSON COUNTY public school coach I met, yes. He said they cannot push their kids as hard because they would just quit. I KNOW it is not that way out in the state, but in Jefferson County, they have to do everything they can just to get kids out.

Where did I say that? I just said they need to work harder if they want to get better and compete.

..... but kids outside of Jefferson County are not going to public schools. That doesn't wash... But will go to X & T. Like I said I don't want to see a change, but the field is not level. "The stats don't lie".

:irked:

Then you're looking the other way when it's convenient. I know of a kid who currently plays for a Jefferson County Public School, who's parents live out in the State, who is claiming his Grandmothers Jefferson County address as his home address, so he can play for that Jefferson County Public School.

There is as much, "Insert the R word here if you want", going on in the Public schools as there is in the Private schools. Anyone who thinks there isn't, just doesn't want to admit it or wants to use it as an excuse for their program not measuring up. It happens everywhere ..... and at all levels of sports ..... not just High School Sports.

We can talk about it here on this message board all we want, but until someone gets caught and proven guilty, no one knows for sure. It's strictly speculation!

Amen. (Am I allowed to say that, or does that break some secular law?) It's a microcosm for what's wrong with American society. There's a vociferous faction that wants everyone to win and not have to work for it.
