Beating any of the Big III would be a great start. Even for Fidler's alma....you see, to be the best you have to beat the best, and not many do.

Keep quoting that mantra! That is the bottom line, IMHO.

Unless of course you are in one of the other 3 classifications and then you just have to beat the best in that class. Sure would be nice to have that benefit in the other sports and not just football/track/cross country.

I knew with this "discussion" it would just be a matter of time until you chimed in. Heaven forbid anyone say anything remotely negative about Male. The stadium is head and shoulders above ANYTHING that was required by code at the time it was built. The new stands that were built last year at Eastern meet code requirements and they are standard steel framework bleachers, not a cement based stadium like was built at Male. The perceived favoritism comes in the fact that a high school named Male still exists at all. Why not move the traditional program and call it Durrett High School, after all it's the program not the name that makes the school, right?

If you don't want anyone to challenge your statements, don't take the discussion in such a contentious direction. No comment on the alumni contributions to offset the costs of stadium construction, eh? Maybe if Eastern had more of a football tradition and a stronger alumni base, they would have a nicer stadium. One important point regarding Durrett--it had been defunct for ten years when Male moved. Should a school that had been in existence for 135 years be killed off because the building it occupied was no longer adequate?

My point is that for almost 10 years Male was one of only 2 public schools not tied to boundaries and they took kids that live in other school's districts, building a program and tradition (just like the private schools) that other public schools were not able to build. Kids WANTED to be there.

If you're implying that Male's program and tradition are based on the 10 year headstart they had in open enrollment relative to other public schools you just don't know your history very well. The foundation of the winningest program in the state was laid long before that. At any rate, now that all other schools have open enrollment, if it is such a key advantage why haven't other programs emerged as consistent winners? Manual has had open enrollment as a county-wide magnet for better than 20 years and has probably had more losing seasons than winning ones over that time.

Amazing how you now deem to speak for all Male fans. Also amazing how you neglect to mention that Male can pick and choose their student body, they can get rid of "problem" students and they can demand parental involvement. Can the other public schools do that? Those are all reasons given as to why private schools have an "unfair playing field" over public schools and it sure seems to me that Male has those same advantages.

The Traditional Program's admission policies ARE much like those of a private school, except there is no selection involved other than random draw. You apply, and if your name comes up in the lottery (students are not "picked and chosen"), you must agree to abide by the disciplinary rules before you are admitted. The students that are there want to be there and seldom (if ever) need to be "gotten rid of" for creating problems. As to whether high disciplinary/academic standards constitutes an advantage on the playing field, that is debatable (Ask Notre Dame if high standards have been helpful to their football fortunes lately.) There have been instances where high impact players have been held out of big games because they failed to meet Male's disciplinary and academic standards.

I believe we got ourselves a cat fight wit H and All Tell

And your point is? All (or very nearly all) JCPS schools are open enrollment now and have been for probably at least a decade now.

And they (Male) are the ONLY public school within that time that has had a smell.

Open enrollment really only applies to 3-4 schools. Male does not have a resides area. There is no section in Jefferson County that is Male's district they accept every student based on a given criteria. Therefore, one could argue that Male has VERY similar advantages to the private schools. There will not be one student asked to leave another school and forced to return to his / her home school of Male. (This is also the case at Manual and Butler)

And as long a 3-4 schools are allowed to take their cream off the top they will have a more elite base of alumni to donate to their facilities plans.

While I do agree that you will most likely have to beat one or possibly two of the 3 to win state in 4A I do not believe to beat one of those teams means you have arrived in the elite status of 4A. The only true measure of success in any class is wins and titles.

No one is claiming that Dixie or Manual are amoung the elite. That status belongs to just three schools in 4A... but at least those schools and others are making progress.

What he said.:p :thumb:

It's tuff to break into those ranks, and at this point no one deserves consideration for inclusion. To do so, year in and out for an extended period of time a team would have to compete and beat. Nobody has done that yet. I think some one will, but not as of right now.

Didn't say anything because from what I understand the alumni promised a whole lot more for that stadium then they actually gave and JCPS had to come up with the rest. That information comes from someone I trust whose son went to Male. Do you honestly believe that Male would have rebounded like it did if not getting the "traditional" status. What should have happened is one of the schools with better facilities (like Durrett) should have been given the "traditional" status and Male closed. Older doesn't mean better and before being given the "traditional" status people certainly weren't beating down the doors to get in, in fact Male was the city school clustered with my high school the first year of busing. A whole lot of people were less then enthusiastic about going there. Male's tradition and age didn't change that the "traditional" program did.

Male was PATHETIC from the time busing started until they were granted the status of "traditional" school. If you are to blinded by loyality to Purple and Gold to see the corelation I'm sorry. The foundation may have been laid but it had crumbled.

Other then the lottery that sounds almost exactly like a private school. (The private school I am most familiar with turns no one away) To deny that is to deny fact.

Then the finals can simply serve as a fun coronation where the Louisville team can let their subs and freshmen play in a title game while the varsity signs autographs and gives interviews on the sidelines.

Funny...and history has shown that Trinity, X, and Male don't lose in the finals except to each other. Trinity lost to Butler in '70 ( I believe), and beat many others since then (11 in a row), before losing to X in 1997 and Male in 2000.

Isn't that the crux of the issue? What are your thoughts on Guru's truism:

"Remember, you can't self impose restrictions on your own school district and then complain that others won't do the same."

Agree or disagree CharlieWeiss, H, others?

I disagree with y'all. I do have a son who goes to Male & is on the team, but kids outside of Jefferson County are not going to public schools. That doesn't wash... But will go to X & T. Like I said I don't want to see a change, but the field is not level. "The stats don't lie".

I disagree. I know a divorced family. Dad is in Jefferson, Mom and Son are in Bullitt. He plays sports at Male. They just use the Jefferson address.

That's also illegal and you can hardly hold that up as a refutation of what he said. I don't agree with him, but fair is fair.

I don't think it's illegal. I mean, you're not going to jail for it. It may not be in the spirit of things...but...

It's fraud, and it's costing the government money... they're quite serious about that.

No. It's life. Someone is listed as the "custodial" parent. In that situation, it sounds like the dad is. Also, whos to say they don't have court ordered split visitation, two days at one place, two days at the next and every other weekend. Fraud is what most do on about April 15th. ;)
