Thanks for the on the Male game. We have some fan issues with our rival Fayetteville just as most rival schools do. Things get said in the heat of the moment. In the world of Twitter, some of those "H" guys were pretty explicit about Coach B and no one I could find was defending him or the Trinity side. The Truth is always somewhere in between.

 

The Male folks are just bitter because for 2 years they've had the best talent in the state and haven't won the big prize.

Awesome to have insight from a poster familiar with another state. As far as I know we now have KY, IN, OH, TN, FL and AR covered by someone familiar with what's going on, pretty neat resources.

That doesn't make sense.

 

People often say similar things in KY because individual school districts limit what they can do with student-athletes. The rules (by the KHSAA) in the KY are the SAME for every public and private high school. In other words, any player can go to any school.

 

Are you saying the private schools in AR can get kids from anywhere and public schools cannot? I don't see how that is possible unless the private schools have a separate playoff system.

Lets take Shelby County for example, they have 2 high schools & their attendance areas are defined for both schools; live in this part of the county, attend Shelby Co, live in the other part of the county attend Collins, same with Nelson Co & Thomas Nelson just to give two counties as an example.

 

Lexington Catholic has students from Clark/Woodford/Jessamine/Madison/Scott/Bourbon & Franklin Co attending there.

 

Fayette County Public Schools are having a long drawn out process of attendance area hearings to set the boundaries for the soon to be 6 public high schools. They have had to alter the attendance areas for every elementary/middle school as well. There will be defined borders of where you live & what school you attend (unless you are in a special program; the Academy @ Henry Clay, MSTC @ Dunbar, SCAPA @ Lafayette, etc.....

The boundaries are self imposed. Meaning if they wished to allow students to attend which ever school they wanted they could. They just choose to have distinct boundaries and restrict school choice.

I see what you are saying but it goes a little deeper than that. It has to do with $$$$$. If you attend a school in one county & live in another county the county you are attending doesn't get the $$$ from your property taxes to support the cost per pupil. Obviously this doesn't apply to private schools, no matter where you live, you are going to pay school taxes to the county you live in, no matter if your kid goes to private school or not...... that is the choice you make by going to a private school.

Guys, I'm a regular at Bentonville football games where this vacancy is. And Beatty would be a great hire. Coach Barry Lunney who retired here was a legend. He won the last two state titles in the state's largest and most competitive division. His teams played for the state title each of the last five years and won three of those. The school is very well supported by the local community where vendors and Walmart folks send their kids. Facilities are top notch including the indoor practice facility. This is the best job in the state, BUT... The new coach here will have one more year (2015) with a full student body, then in 2016 Bentonville West HS will open, and some think that will dilute the talent pool and make it a very tough job. I disagree. Lunney played about 24 guys, with the best guys playing both ways. Lots of guys never saw the field so I tend to think that our 2's and some of our 3's could start for anybody else. That said, still going to be a great job. Beatty seems like a hard-nosed winner, which is what this town will demand. We don't lose at much of anything, named last year as MaxPreps #1 Athletic Program in the country with 12 state titles last year. Already won like 6 or 7 this year. I've read a lot of support for him in the recent days, but also saw some of the Male players bashing him on Twitter for a postgame fight last fall? Likely his biggest bogey on the resume is his close affiliation with Bobby Petrino. BP didn't leave a solid taste in the mouth of anyone here who's a Razorback fan with his actions a few years ago with the grad assistant and the motorcycle.

 

Someone is making a huge mistake if they in any way hold this against Coach Beatty in my opinion. Heck, if anything I think it can be viewed as a positive, being Petrino is one of the BEST college football coaches in the land, personality/character aside. They are two different people and what ever personal mistakes Petrino has made can't/shouldn't be held against Beatty.

I grew up in Pike County, but have been gone from there for nearly 20 years. When I was there, you could attend any school in the county (IF) you provided your own transportation if it was outside of your designated area in the county. Anyone in the county could attend Pikeville Independent if they wanted, but it cost you if you lived outside of the city limits. I couldn't however drive to Floyd County to go to one of their schools since I didn't live in that county, not sure how it has changed now.

 

I currently live in Fayette County. I can send my kids to the attendance area school that we have for Elementary,Middle, & High School & if they qualify for a program @ another school they can attend there.

 

Counties make certain concessions if someone who is a junior or senior has a situation (family moves to neighboring county & they want to finish their high school time @ the school they were at) but then again it reverts back to providing your own transportation & such(they have also asked for tuition to finish it out since you are in another county paying that countys taxes & not for the county you are attending)

 

I dont know each counties rules, I can say that Bourbon County has an open enrollment system the last I checked, there were some students I know who were living in Fayette County & attending Bourbon County & were playing athletics, (they had never played Varsity in Fayette however)

 

I'm just saying I have seen a lot in my nearly 20 years of involvement in athletics in this state, and I am not saying I am right, wrong or in the middle & definitely not trying to offend anyone. I do like this forum.
