So will H-burg 2006 football schedule remain the same or what??

Plan that has been in the works is:

 

Harrodsburg and Mercer County will merge effective July 1, 2006. Students will remain in their same school buildings until the new high school is built and ready to open in August 2008. The sports teams will merge together effective July 1, 2006. There will be no more Harrodsburg High School Sports teams. Students from each school will be getting together in the next couple of weeks to select a new mascot and team colors. The new and IMPROVED Mercer Sports Teams in the fall will be playing as a new mascot and with new team colors.

Will the Head Coaches in each sport have to apply and interview? Who will be the Head Football Coach?? (Jaggers or Yeast)

No one from either school system has announced any coaching positions. I am sure in the next couple of weeks (before June 1) the head football coach will be announced.

What does that do to the Ft Harrod Bowl picture? Mercer is supposed to play South Laurel and Harrodsburg is supposed to play North Laurel in week #2 on a saturday. Which one will have to pick up a new opponent in week 2 SL or NL?

You put Mercer's big O line with H'burgs speedy backfield, and you could have a very dangerous team this year!

Mercer made a run last year finishing 10-2 and losing to Russell at Russell 41 to 28.

Very true. It sounds from reading the article that, whomever gets this job is going to have his work cut out for him with uniting the kids and communities.

The Mercer Board has not yet voted for the merger although I am sure it will pass. As for Mercer's Big O line keep in mind that senior class last year was most of the o'line and as for Hburg's speedy back field don't count the Mercer back field that beat Hburg last year with all coming back except for Senior Scheller. The team will have alot of back field experience. They'll do well.

Separate schools with a merged athletic program ... interesting. I know of schools in suburban Chicago that do it that way, but those are much bigger school systems and did so for budget reasons.

 

I don't know that it's the ideal of way of doing things, but I'm interested to see how it works out.

They should be the Mercer County Pioneers. I never understood the Scottie dog as a mascot. Pioneers is a good match with the Fort Harrod history.

But doing this now sure puts 10 football teams in the hunt for another opponent without a great deal of notice. I am with you that one last farewell season would be a good thing.
