Mercer / Harrodsburg Consolidation

Featured Replies

I would say it is handheld as well. Only 3 players in the project top 100 NFL draft prospects for 2007 have run 4.3 in the 40.

I have seen these kids play, and they can fly!

Well, without a doubt, we know the backfield will be speedy all around. But what about linemen? I know Harrodsburg will have at least 2 maybe 3 returning linemen with good size and varsity experience. What about Mercer? How many linemen do they have returning with Varsity experience from last year? What about their size?

I think someone said earlier that Mercer lost a lot of lineman. So that will work out well. ;)

Talked with some people last night who are in the loop...Mercer County will continue to be the name of the school but the mascot will change. The colors will continue to be Red white and blue. Mercer predom uses Red and White and Hburg predom uses Blue and White. The New school will make sure it uses blue more than MC currently does. From what I was told they are going to let the students vote over the summer on a new mascot. Didn't say how they were going to come up with a list but the students would have a list to vote from.

I think Mercer currently wears a blue helmet.

4.3 was that on electric time or hand held. I know the 2 can fly, but that is out there. Harrodsburg kids are what is being referred to.

This was handheld with about 15 mph gust of wind behind them. They are not 4.3's but are very fast and I would say realistically 4.5 to 4.49.

According to enrollments on the KHSAA the combo would put Mercer way over 900 students, no chance the KHSAA would allow them to stay in 2A when they would have a 200 student advantage over the largest 2A team. With numbers that large they would be a decent sized 3A club. I would think the KHSAA would have to bump them.

This link has the enrollments for the 2005-2006 school year http://www.khsaa.org/reports/20052006schoolenrollmenttotalsbyenroll.pdf

It says that Mercer has 715 and that H'burg has 239, but I either heard or read somewhere that H'burgs enrollment number is actually right at 200 (199 to be exact). With those numbers, the enrollment would be right at 954, but who knows??

...but throwing in graduation numbers of both schools classes this year, the incomming freshmen in the fall, those kids whose parents may pull them out and send them to other local school systems, Im saying that the enrollment will be between 900-950(give or take).

..According to the report in the link, they WON'T have a 200 student advantage over over the largest 2-A teams for next year, probably not even 100, let alone 200. They have L'ville Western at 908, Lone Oak at 840. Will they have an advantage of some sort? Sure, only for a year

I would think that they will still play 2-A next year, but even if, by chance, they got bumbed to 3-A,then I would still like their chances for success. Tougher all around competition amongst 3-A, no doubt, but I would and will still like their chances.

If Mercer fields a consolidated team, and I still think that's a big if, they will have to play in 2A. There is no way the KHSAA can make schools adjust their schedules to accommodate Mercer moving up at this late date.

What does that do to the Ft Harrod Bowl picture? Mercer is supposed to play South Laurel and Harrodsburg is supposed to play North Laurel in week #2 on a saturday. Which one will have to pick up a new opponent in week 2 SL or NL?

I was advised that if the merger indeed happens, North Laurel will be playing Louisville Western in the Ft. Harrod Bowl.

From the Centre Combine on Wednesday - This is what the "future" backfield from the Harrodsburg/Mercer County consolidation did in the 40: Cory Jackson, Donald Walker, and Brandon Ford all ran a 4.3; Freeman Edwards ran a 4.6 with two bad ankles.

This could become very interesting!!!!!!!

Rumor has it that these kids will be transferring to Danville next year. However, in the interest of full disclosure, I am the one starting the rumor.:D;)

If they are transferring, that means their families would have to move to Danville. Wonder if that is going to happen? I haven't heard that rumor, so I guess you are the one starting it.:jump:

I'm sure you arent meaning to be serious, but that was also the rumor going around last year, but if you saw the facilities that are being built over at Mercer then you and others who might be thinking that, will know that rumor is false. :jump:

...and, to add to the rumor ring, titletownclown, I've heard that there are some seniors in KY next year who are puting Mercer Co. at the top of their college list, due to facilities!! haha :p

I'm sure you arent meaning to be serious

;) Of course I meant it tongue in cheek. That's why I added that last sentence. In all honesty, I didn't realize a rumor had been going around about those players. This merger is great for C Ky football in that we'll have have top notch teams in 1A, 2A, and 3A all within throwing distance of each other.

Mercers new facilities are very nice. This is exactly why I was in favor of the merger the new athletic facilities and school etc. will pull everyone together in the community and the school will be much stronger as a result. There are obviously some hurdles to overcome however, most everyone I talk to from both schools see the consolidation as a unifying event not as something bad. If you could have seen the Harrodsburg and Mercer boys interact at the Centre Combine you would see how good this will be. All of the young men were very excited about the upcoming season, they were supporting each other and eating together like they had been teammates for years. Can't wait until next season!:dancingpa

Excellent Post 4th and Long, a few kids might have a few issues when the 2 schools finally merge, but for the most part, it should be a positive for education and Mercer's sports program.

First few games should be interesting, I hope no one gets my seat :):D
