Mercer / Harrodsburg Consolidation

Featured Replies

Mike,

Wow what is the problem here? My very 1st sentence should have clarified things for anyone who read it. I was simply making an observation - theres no need to take it as an attack.

You have made many, many posts on this matter which are presented as basically factual and you have repeatedly been rather dismissive and/or sarcastic of others comments at times IMO. You have plainly presented yourself as a big fan of Mercer so to now make a special point that you don't live or work in Mercer gives an appearance of playing both sides of the discussion. You can admit to being a big fan - its OK :thumb:

I think unbiased others reading the thrad could reasonably ask about the possibility of "taking advantage of the numbers for a year". It's not hating Mercer - I dont know or care about Mercer, it's just a question about the scenario presented on here.

Also, you did state you didnt care about the academics - that was one of my main points.

You're right; personally i don't care about the academic issue this is a football board.:jump: That's not to say that the academic end isn't important to most other people. Also, some of my info is factual and some just speculation just like yours and others. If i am laying out points for both sides of the issue which i am allowed to do (i think) that is ok. I am a fan of Mercer and Jaggers. Just because i don't live there and don't work there (which is true) doesn't mean i have changed my mind on being a Mercer fan. Also, friend, i can assure you that i dont care what "appearance" my comments give to anyone. I have no personal issues with you but these are just responses to your point. So back to the point. There is another topic about Mercer. This topic is basically old news. The merger is a done deal. I sure hope your team doesn't have to play Mercer next year.:fire:

It would have been nice for this merger to be planned better so those teams would actually have had time to get a game. After all, Harrodsburg is under contract to these teams to play. I hope they have to pay the standard financial penalty to get out of these games. It does not speak well of either school system involved that this merger has been planned so poorly and so late.

Mr. Westsider,

I think this is where someone said it was planned poorly??:D

Mike,

Everyone here knows it's a football board. I simply pointed out that you chose to state on here that you don't care about academics. That's OK - some people don't care about those things and as you have made plain many times, there are many things you don't care about. I won't try to complicate things for you further.

I was curious why there might be so much excitment about the consolidation by sportsfans there so I went to the KHSAA site. They only show the playoff brackets back through 1995 but I checked for Mercers record. Is it true that last year you achieved your FIRST playoff victory? (at least since 95). I can see being excited about gaining the great sports history of Harrodsburg but how do you go from winning 1 playoff game to thinking that you'll have a chance to win the entire state?

Maybe next year when your new team is up with my team in the division where they wont have an advantage that others don't, we'll see if your rah rah HS cockiness has worn off yet :D

OK, so that is what he said. I don't think he was referring to the planning of the merger as much as he was the timing of it and the fact that the schools that are having to adjust their schedules had no inkling until recently that this might occur, with little time to come up with a contingency plan.

I suspect his criticism was more involving how other schools were informed of the possibility of the merger, not the actual planning of the merger itself.

Fact - consolidating this late is bush league. It was done to give Mercer a chance to win a state championship in AA this year with the help of some VERY gifted Harrodsburg players. Consolidating this late leaves 10 teams, and probably 2 more that were scheduled to scrimmage Harrodsburg, in a very bad situation. Any way you cut it the timing is terrible! If they were going to do it they should have done it in two years; that way everyone would have had time to prepare and they would be in the same school. This makes Mercer look foolish and they will look even more foolish if they don't win a state title with this loaded team.

Guys this is getting ugly. I hope we can remember that this is about the kids, not the school boards who voted merger, not about fans, it's about two schools with completely different cultures being forced to find some common ground. They (the school board) came to a tough decision they felt had to be made. There is a lot of tradition in the small independents around the state. The merge, I am sure, was not an easy compromise.

I haven't gotten my crystal ball up and running yet, but Mercer is not a gimmie for a title...nobody is. That is the funny thing about putting 15-18 year old kids on the feild, you never know what's going to happen on any given night. I do however, as I have voiced before, feel this merge won't hurt them when it comes to numbers or when it comes to talent but there is alot of football to be played.

I wish the kids the best of luck, afterall that is what this great game is all about. The kids...making young men better people.:thumb:

and Im sure others that are out there thinking the samething, but havent said it..it also shows how much of a clue YOU DONT have when it comes to all of the factors that go into coaching and pulling a team together, especially a merged team of two schools who ever since the beginning of time have despised, yet respected the other at the sametime on the playing field, court, etc...Im a Mercer fan, as a matter of fact Im a fan of all the teams in the Danville, Harrodsburg surrounding area, so when I say this, I mean no disrespect..but, it's not like two major football powerhouses are combining. You act like this is Boyle Co. merging into Danville and them playing 1A...

..It's Mercer County, never known as an annually, traditionally strong football team and Harrodsburg, a school who's numbers have decreased over 10% over the last 10 years..and who only won 3 ballgames last year, a school that hasnt really made any noise in the playoffs the last 8-10 years (since the Craig Yeast, Dennis Johnson, etc. years)..

Im all for this merger, Im 100% for it, and personally feel that it will be the greatest thing that has ever happened to the Mercer County/Harrodsburg community..so, the comments I made in the above paragraph were meant in no disrespect, pretty much just facts..

But, JDG, Im going to take the high road on this and accept the realization that you know nothing about what all goes into to being a success in playing football, let alone coaching..because if you did, you wouldnt have posted some of the things you said. Have a good nite! :thumb:

I would never have thought that this thread would turn into such a battleground. Good timing? Bad timing? Alterior motives? Best of intentions? Hidden agendas?? We should just wish the new consolidated school good luck and move on.

The vast majority of us are, but apparently some are offended by the discussion of some of the football-related issues surrounding the merger.

This is a good place to end this one.
