  1. Indeed we are old friend. Steamroller, you know who I am talking about. Former CU guy.
  2. Guys this is getting ugly. I hope we can remember that this is about the kids, not the school boards who voted merger, not about fans, it's about two schools with completely different cultures being forced to find some common ground. They (the school board) came to a tough decision they felt had to be made. There is a lot of tradition in the small independents around the state. The merge, I am sure, was not an easy compromise. I haven't gotten my crystal ball up and running yet, but Mercer is not a gimmie for a title...nobody is. That is the funny thing about putting 15-18 year old kids on the feild, you never know what's going to happen on any given night. I do however, as I have voiced before, feel this merge won't hurt them when it comes to numbers or when it comes to talent but there is alot of football to be played. I wish the kids the best of luck, afterall that is what this great game is all about. The kids...making young men better people.:thumb:
  3. I too blackshirts can think of one heck of a candidate!!!! He would be a dandy.
  4. Not sure. Was curious as to who in 2A, since we've had a 4 class system, has had larger enrollments than 950 and didn't win the title. A blanket statement was made about having so many and I personally couldn't think of any. Was just curious as to whom. No slight meant by it, but when it has occured many times in 2A as previously posted I am sure that many can be named. Just wanted to add to my wealth of useless knowledge in case I make it to Jeopardy one day. Haha.
  5. Using your reasoning, all the big 4A schools like Dunbar and Henderson, should always beat the other 4A schools who have 200 or in alot of cases 700 less students.Ten years ago , 1996,Nelson County won the 4A title and just 2 years before that they were playing 3A football. They had 4A numbers in 94 but they didn't win 3A.How close is your team, Henry County ,to 3 A numbers now? No, that is using your reasoning. I asked a question. If you didn't understand, the question was: who had larger enrollments and couldn't win 2A? This statement was made and I am curious for the answer, as I don't know. I understand that Nelson won 4A when they played 4A, thanks for pointing that out. If you are wondering what the current enrollment numbers are for other 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A schools are, the KHSAA has those posted for your viewing pleasure.
  6. There are many schools with a larger enrolement that could not win 2A however, because many see Mercerburg as a serious threat next season enrolement is a big issue. Really? Who had LARGER enrollments and couldn't win 2A? (seriously, I am just curious can't think of any) Mercerburg will be in the 950 student range. Not that Mercr is a shoe in, still a lot of games to play.
  7. According to enrollments on the KHSAA the combo would put Mercer way over 900 students, no chance the KHSAA would allow them to stay in 2A when they would have a 200 student advantage over the largest 2A team. With numbers that large they would be a decent sized 3A club. I would think the KHSAA would have to bump them.
  8. This scenario brings up some interesting debate. How is the KHSAA going to approach the merge of only ahtletics without the complete merge of the two schools? If the schools don't merge until 07-08 can the teams merge before that? Seems like it would throw a monkey wrench into the equation when considering enrollment and classification (if the schools merge they would for sure be 3A based on the current enrollments of both schools). If this is a legal move in athletics what would stop many areas from "combining" teams? Just thought I would open the box on that one.
  9. First, Henry Co. contacted him about the position, as per the newspaper in Henry County. He didn't interview or apply before they went to this clinic you keep referring to. I also believe Engstrand asked the Super to talk to him and Super never called him. He wanted only what was promised to be done for the program and to discuss certain issues. (none of those issues had to do with him gaining personally) I also believe the Super told him certain things would be done and never followed through. So before you go and run someone into the ground get your info straight. Would you stay some place that told you they would do something and didn't? When you try to resolve those issues with your boss and he never contacts you would you stay? You exhibit half truths, or only what you want people to hear. Didn't the coaches also work with the boosters on every single fundraiser? The coaches and kids, I believe, also sold gold cards that would have paid for their clinic. How about getting all the info out instead of what you want people to percieve since you have all the info.
  10. No chance, the speed of the college game is too fast or 99% of high school kids. You have small school D-Lineman that run sub 4.7's-the best high school team in the country could not beat the worst college team in the country. Even on the worst college team in the country most of those guys were all-everything at their schools in their respective states. So IMO-not even close.
  11. Yes and no, it is raised using the school name in the booster name somewhere, ie. Frankfort High Gridiron Club, but the funds are only used for the football team and are not considered funds in the general athletic fund. So yes the school can take control, but that is an animal they don't want to touch. So saying the school paid for a clinic is not quite true and makes it sound like schools are throwing money into the development of coaches...and we all know that doesn't go on in most places! Haha Anyway, whatever the new coach decides to run, from an observers standpoint, things were heading in the right direction...wasn't participation up something like 20+ kids from the year before? The new coach will appear to have some good young kids to work with. I hope the Super takes a long look at how he treats the two schools and decides to follow through with some of the things he told the coaches and school he would do that he refused to follow up on. Perhaps then they can start keeping head coaches. I saw on the KHSAA website they are looking for all kinds of coaches, it appears that it's not just football. The root of this problem seems to grow very deep.
  12. Buckett-I believe the boosters paid for it, not the school. Most booster clubs handle things like that. I believe most of the coaching staff went, according to a friend of mine that coaches there, so they should still be able to run the new offense if the new coach chooses too.
  13. Why do you think they have gone through so many coaches? Western Hills is considered the "other" school in Franklin County and is treated as such.
  14. Only a guess, but with thier resources they could play the best anywhere...I would think. I would love to see some matchups between them and some National powers go at it...would be interesting.
  15. Rowdy They could very well break the districts up by using teams from the opposite regions to compose the new districts. That way they could limit district sizes to 4 or 5. Then teams would be open to play tough non-district schedules. That is what I have understood in speaking with some of the coaches reps. We shall see.
  16. In looking at the AAAA brackets on KHSAA one or the other tends to blowout thier opponents in the first round. Uncompetitive, in most cases...yes. Don't mean any disprespect to those teams, but it's more or less a warm-up game. Most of those teams just don't have as many Jimmys and Joes. Not in all cases, but in most.
  17. Missouri split up its 5A few years ago ... there are 36 schools in 5A and 32 in 6A. Oklahoma has 32 teams apiece in the upper four classes.-Meaning there are more than 4 classes. Here were two previously posted. Works for me. Again, the emphasis is on the kids. Where is your emphasis? You don't have to answer, I already know.
  18. Exactly how is it dilluted? Competition by it's very nature is defined by one athlete, team, etc...pushing another to perform as well as possible. The current class system is not competitive in 4A and 1A. Wouldn't you want better competition through the early rounds, or is it to your advantage to play cupcakes with much smaller male enrollments and rest the varsity for those that can actually push you? As posted previously many states have more classes with similar populations...not exactly the same, but similar. Does it mean alot to mow over smaller teams in the playoffs to get to the tittle? Like I said, this is about the kids...and I am sure that it is just as satisfying to beat your peers (those with similar male enrollments) instead of getting beat up by the giants (in some cases nearly double the male enrollment). X-T won't hurt with the new class system, but why would they when male enrollments are exhorbitant by comparison and nothing is done to limit the far reaching arms of the institutions.
  19. Great idea let's open up all districts for athletics. Then some small/county schools would shut down, cost communities jobs, and send some small districts into economic poverty due to closing down the largest employeer of some towns. GREAT IDEA!!! Obviously nobody attends school anymore for academics. Wait, isn't that why parents send their children to private schools, for the education...that is the arguement I generally see from the privates. That athletics are just the by product of the "good education". Nobody is saying you make the boundries...everyone knows you don't have any. In Louisville it is open enrollment, in Louisville...not state wide. Louisville schools can't pull kids from other states and outside the Louisville area. Nor do they have all male enrollments. Again, nobody is saying create 100 classes so stop the belly aching...adding classes is done for two reasons. 1. Large population equals more classes. 2. Large disparity in enrollments equals more classes. What a tragedy it would be to allow teams to compete against schools that are similar in population. Not to say X-T do so, but you shouldn't mention the R word. One of your fellow private schools did the same and it turned out they were paying athletes...big shocker!
  20. "Trinity has 16 titles, St.x has 11. Many times over we have beaten schools with more talent and larger enrollments." Both good teams, but you mentioned enrollment as though you are lessor...in total number yes...but not in MALE enrollment (the only enrollment figure that counts). So don't throw out the "larger enrollments" ploy. You have a tremendous advantage with numbers-an advantage you cannot deny. More overall tallent? NO. Often times your second and third strings are better overall than many teams in your current class combined. Since the change in the Regional brackets (placing X and T in different regions) one of you should win the title year in and year out. It's funny how money pushed that change! (State title game brings in a ton of cash when the X-T game is on...KHSAA is loving it all the way to the bank!) 6 classes however will not eliminate X-T from dominating. It will however help the lower 4A be more competitive by playing teams similar in enrollment. I don't think X-T have anything to fear with 6 classes.
  21. Doesn't the Coaches Advisory Committee represent the coaches in their respective regions? My district was asked thier opinion and our represenative expressed our majority opinion. The first two rounds now have complete blowouts, but upsets also occur (if you mention the negative try to point out the positives as well...no matter how small in number they are). But again I never mentioned going to Indiana's playoff system, I just pointed out they are not having the same dispute. 6 classes is not "watering" down the championships, it only acknowledges the disparity in enrollments based on the four classes. Take a peak at the enrollment numbers and notice the disparity in the top vs. the bottom in each class. Like I said, it's about the kids.
  22. The idea has always been what is best for the kids and for KY football. In KY everyone goes to the district tournament in basketball, that means everyone gets a post season, a second chance at a title, be it one title, but still everyone gets a shot. In football you might be in a 8 or 9 team district, win 6 games and not have any chance at a post season. While the sister district in the region can have a team win 1 game or even go ofer and make the playoffs. That is fair???? NO it's not. A horrible team gets in and a good one watches the playoffs. A six class system might be what is best, it might not but the majority of coaches in this state feel it is the best decision at this time. The fact is what we have now is not the best system FOR THE KIDS and does need revision. In Indiana everyone goes to the playoffs. Don't see them wishing it were like it is in KY. I am not saying everyone should go to the playoffs, but in my humble opinion a decent team shouldn't be kept out because they are in a severly overloaded district.
  23. This is a question so don't shoot me!! Can a student athlete at Dunbar transfer to Lex. Cath? If so that could be a serious issue since Cath has no district lines. Again I am asking because I don't live in Lexington. ALso, we play Lex Cath and they don't bring a big crowd (by comparison to other privates)...perhaps that would change since they are very close to each other. Anyway, I was just asking a question.
  24. I believe the week following the last school basketball game (either boys or girls, whomever finishes the season latest).
