Mercer / Harrodsburg Consolidation

Then why not have the mascot be a set of golf clubs instead of a scottie dog?

A little "mop dog" doesn't exactly strike fear in opponents.

Yeah, but they can fiercely nip at your heels.

I read somewhere earlier in this post where someone said something about the "Razorbacks", that would be cool. That right there is a fierce a$$ animal, plus it would be like H'burg was bringing some of their tradition to the new merger. For those that dont know(which Im sure arent many), HHS official nickname is the "Pioneers", but they go by the "Hogs" just as much, if not more.

"Harrodsburg and Mercer County high schools will continue to exist until the merged board approves a move to the new senior high school for grades 10-12."

The above paragraph was from the Danville paper. The Herald-Leader also made it sound like the two schools would remain separate until the new school is built. Is it certain the schools will field one team? Like Westsider, I'm not certain the KHSAA will go for that.

I'm betting they already checked this out with the KHSAA before they did it. Wouldn't you think that the powers to be would have already checked this out.I heard that students were going to share both buildings for different classes being taught at different campuses.

So, you're saying you think it is beyond the realm of possibility that an elected body would leap before it looked???? Think really hard about that.

Assuming that the combined Mercer/Harrodsburg football program will be 2A, I would be comfortable in saying that they will be in the running for the 2A crown in 06. As one poster already mentioned, combining the speed of Harrodsburg with the traditional size of Mercer's O line will be a match made in heaven.

If the students intermingled some in at least a few of the classes, it would seem more like one school.

According to enrollments on the KHSAA the combo would put Mercer way over 900 students, no chance the KHSAA would allow them to stay in 2A when they would have a 200 student advantage over the largest 2A team. With numbers that large they would be a decent sized 3A club. I would think the KHSAA would have to bump them.

From the Centre Combine on Wednesday - This is what the "future" backfield from the Harrodsburg/Mercer County consolidation did in the 40: Cory Jackson, Donald Walker, and Brandon Ford all ran a 4.3; Freeman Edwards ran a 4.6 with two bad ankles.

This could become very interesting!!!!!!!

4.3 was that on electric time or hand held. I know the 2 can fly, but that is out there. Harrodsburg kids are what is being referred to.

I am not sure, but I would say it was hand held. Either way, they are a bunch of speedy boys.

Sunshine Walker was already at Mercer. Just think all 3 of them in the backfield together at the same time in the bone.

This scenario brings up some interesting debate. How is the KHSAA going to approach the merge of only ahtletics without the complete merge of the two schools?

If the schools don't merge until 07-08 can the teams merge before that? Seems like it would throw a monkey wrench into the equation when considering enrollment and classification (if the schools merge they would for sure be 3A based on the current enrollments of both schools). If this is a legal move in athletics what would stop many areas from "combining" teams? Just thought I would open the box on that one.

To answer this issue i will say that surely the superintendent from Mercer has already done the homework on all these kinds of issues before any vote was taken. Seems like many people have good (curious) questions. But, i will tell you that Mr. Johnson of Mercerburg is one of the smartest superintendents in the state. He also cares deeply about the kids and his epmployees. I see nothing but positive in this move. I guarantee the khsaa has already been involved in planning this merger. Go Mercerburg!!:thumb:

So would quick pitch be a big play in the offense  . I for one am very happy to see an entire community do what is best for all their kids. I also think they couldn't have had a better guy than Marty Jaggers to be the head man. He will work well with the incoming staff, players, and parents of Harrodsburg. The kids will love him. :dancingpa :D :thumb: :ylsuper: :jump:
