Everyone is acting like we have Bill Parcells out there waiting. Our last 3 hires have been busts because none of them are here now and they all had prior coaching experience. We need stability and more important than experience is someone that will keep their word and stay here for a while. Every high school coach was a 1st year coach at some point in time. You don't think Dennis knows how to run a program when his dad ran a successful one for over 20 years and would help him if he gets a head coaching job.

 

No one is going to be successful at Mercer until the fans and parents get over themselves and until the kids get their heads on straight. Just a fact.

It can be a tough job... But most jobs are tough jobs. There are maybe 10 jobs in the state that are "good" jobs. Every other job is a fight. I will say this - I think the admin problems have been greatly exaggerated - at least regarding the most recent turnover. The fans can be tough, but so can all fans. The whole Mercer/H-town split is overblown, IMO. However, I do believe the next head coach better have some interpersonal skills to go along with some football chops.

 

Coach Pardue was doing fine - just had a season that went off the rails... Injuries, off-the-field issues, etc. Seems like everyone got frustrated and it boiled over. I don't think it was anyone's "fault," least of all the admin or fans, just a lot of frustration all around. There is an opportunity to do really well for the right guy. But they need a proven HEAD COACH, if they can get one. It is not an impossible job, but it is also not the job for a new guy, cutting his teeth.

I'm interested in seeing where the search ends up at. It's abnormally quiet around here so I'm lost as to the direction the program is headed. Dennis Johnson intrigues me as I feel like someone like him, while inexperienced, who is from the area is the type of person who will still demand the respect to the position that should be shown that I don't feel any coach in this area has had dating back to Marty Jaggers' time as the coach. I'm amazed at how quiet the search has been though. Nobody knows a thing when you ask around.

I ask this question because I don't know. Why are the fans such an issue with football but no other sport. You don't hear about fans/parents in baseball, boys/girls basketball or any other sport but this seems to be the excuse we get with football when things aren't going right. Seems like you would have an issue with parents in all sports that they wouldn't just pick one sport to act like fools.

You ever been to a middle school or high school girls soccer game? The less than civil aren't specifically in football. :lol2:

Soccer and baseball produce more suspensions of players and fans than all the other sports combined (all schools) thru the khsaa.

Exactly. But, far less people are at those games...so, nobody knows.

It has been eerily quiet. Last couple of times this job came open, there was speculation swirling the whole time. Not sure if this is a good thing or not. lol
