Hearing from some pretty solid sources that Coach Chris Pardue has resigned and that the Mercer County job is available now.

 

Any ideas on who his replacement will be? I've heard they had been preparing for this and that they have some candidates in mind.

 

What's next for Mercer County?

Had heard this was coming...Josh Jaggers a candidate to return to Mercer? He would be a logical candidate that was there when they won the state title game. Just a thought.

I would be floored if he even applied for the job. Floored.

 

Don't get me wrong. If he applied and got the job I would love it for my own personal, selfish reasons but I would be floored if he entertained coming back to Mercer County.

Is the Mercer administration really that much of a train wreck that no one can last more than a few years?

things can happen outside of administration that makes a place not able to hold onto good people. Not saying that admin cant ruin a good thing, I have seen it happen many times in my years, but there is often more to it than just admin & a coach or someone clashing that makes a place unworkable.

 

- empty promises on teaching schedule, assistant coaching positions in the building, $$$ dedicated to the program, facility improvements, etc....

- overbearing boosters or parents

- lack of flexibility within the program

- general lack of program support

- admin not being in touch with athletics

I know of plenty of schools with crappy leadership (admin) & have successful athletic programs.

 

Maybe it plugs in here, I know absolutely NOTHING about the leadership team or their structure @ Mercer, but its not always the case.

I dont know of any programs who have prolonged success who dont have a very good foundation with their admin. Obviously it can happen, but it is not likely sustainable over the long haul.

Mercer is a BAD Job. How many coaches have the had in the last 10 years? How many coaches have turned the job down? They have all the talent you need to be successful. I guess winning state in 2A with a 5A roster got all the administration and parents hopes to high. Whoever gets this job good luck!

I still think it's a good job.

 

Marty Jaggers went 10-2 the year before the merger in '05. Rains won a playoff game in his lone year. Region Finalists in 2013 under Pardue, and most forget that Jaggers last year (08) they were 5A District Champs.

 

...as for the 5A in 2A. Yes, they were bigger, but technically, they were a a 3A school in 06 when it gets down to it. I understood the gripe at the time, but then in 07...when 5 Classes came about, and a couple of the schools that were in the 2A hunt in 06 went 4A (LaRue County and Louisville Western), I didn't sweat it as much.

I really hate to hear this. I thought Mercer had finally found a good coach that would stay.

 

There are several issues at Mercer that may never be solved. Admin is part of the problem. Not so much now as when Yates was still the principal. Parents and boosters are a big part of the problem. Many parents think their kid is the next big thing when most a merely decent high school players. The most disturbing is the climate of the players. There are some serious issues with some of the players that can't be discussed here. I feel for the players that are really trying to change things.

 

Until the entire community buys in, there will never be support or success at Mercer.

They got rid of the right person when they ran Marty Jaggers off.
