Very important to get someone in place to oversee spring practice and be ready to hit the ground running after the dead period.

Also need the head coach in place to finalize the coaching staff and get the summer calendar formulated and out to the team before school is out. Everyone's season is over, so I don't know what the advantage would be of waiting on anything at this point.

It's Mercer Co. Sad to say but this has been the M.O. every time there is a coaching search over the past several years.

 

IMHO it has been a ridiculous situation since Jaggers was forced out. Mercer completely screwed themselves when he was forced out.

It may,but if Mercer wanted Johnson, they could have offered before Woodford.

I'm not crazy about Woodford's hire.

Why does everyone want schools to rush? Why not make sure the right hire is made?

Because in football you have to get a staff and teach them your off and def. It isn't like hoops

There is plenty of time for that. They will a spring practice and 3 weeks in June as long as they getsomeone in place by mid April they will be fine. That is assuming they have someone currently doing the ff season.

Again you can rush the hire and make a bad one or show a little patience and get it right. You are correct the quicker the better but don't make the hire in haste.

Or you can be patient and get a coach. They rush to install their system and they have a bad year because of it. Then the fans wonder what went wrong.

I get the worry about being behind, install, schematics and all of that. I do.

 

But, this hire is much bigger than that. Mercer doesn't just need a coach. They need somebody who can fit the bill of one who has plans on being there for a while (granted, it's a two way street) & one who has a big personality, some serious social skills. The reason I say that, is because there is much of the community that is still bitter about the merger and some gaps in the bridges. A fan base that, right or wrong doesn't exactly have the best of reputation across the state. The list could go on and on.

 

This hire is about so much more than just next football season.
