Guessing CCH would like to have Brossart back right now, after the job he's done at Dixie in the past couple of years. maybe someone should be looking at Rowe as the problem, and not the head football coach. :popcorn:

What about the guy at Newport? He and his staff have done a tremendous job turning around that program. Seems like a young, energetic kind of guy. Maybe just what the Park Hills mafia needs

As some have mentioned, the public to private takes a very large hit on the salary. Unless the public school coach has a side business and won't miss the several thousands of dollars hit.

I'm not sure Coach Schmitz is necessarily right for the job. I don't know his resume...but I expect Cov Cath to look for people who come with head coaching success in a program larger than a Kentucky 2A school, and very likely someone with experience in a Catholic school system.

 

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Coach Schmitz is making more as a public school coach at Newport that Coach Wirth was making at Cov Cath. That's a definite obstacle for Cov Cath when it comes to hiring. If it hadn't been, I think there more than likely would have been a Coach Woolf in Park Hills.

Or the part where Bob Rowe has systematically ramped up attendance at a private school year after year in a time when no one is spending money and - oh by the way- brought in a championship level basketball coach.

I have known Bob Rowe since his coaching/teaching days at Brossart and have every confidence that if he made this decision, it was a well-founded one.

 

He has done wonders transforming Covington Catholic into a first-class championship caliber high school, spritually, academically and athletically. Wirth has been on staff for six years. This was not a knee-jerk decision. If Rowe felt that Wirth was capable of developing the program and taking it to the next level along with every other high standard being set there, Wirth would remain his head coach. This obviously isn't the case.

 

Rest assured that there are underlying issues that led to Coach WIrth's demise at CovCath, outside of his win-loss record or ability to beat Highlands. Wirth himself has made efforts to move elsewhere. While it is no crime to test your value in the marketplace, he also has a responsibility to be up front with his present employer.

 

Rowe is a no-nonsense administrator who runs a student-centered operation. He holds people accountable, be they a teacher, coach, or member of the support staff. The enrollment at CovCath has risen steadily to nearly 600 students on his watch. He came under fire when he made the decision to make a change in the basketball arena, and will take heat from outsiders looking in over replacing Dave Wirth.

 

Believe me that it will work out for the best for CovCath in the long run. Rowe's track record speaks for itself, and it will once again in this case.

I suspect this is a well planned out scenario. Look for someone with high credentials to come in. As it was in the basketball situation we will know the results of the change in a few years. Good luck to whomever fills the position as well as to Mr Wirth.

I would say because of the timing, someone came available and they have their guy.

Best wishes to Dave Wirth. I'll let the current parents debate whether he lost the team or not. I just appreciate the effort and time he put in. I've seen his wife and kids at game and they're ALL IN. I can't imagine being the wife of a Covington Catholic football coach. Can't be easy.
