Curious to know if others think it might be acceptable if she left the child in the car, but locked it and took the keys? The car would be in her sight the entire time. Regardless, I bet she never does that again.

Yes. I'm not risking it. A sleeping kid will go back to sleep. If someone takes your child they might not come back.

Isnt the bigger issue the fact that we cant leave anything unattended for the fear that someone will steal it.

I was off Wednesday, and that jack wagon who beat up the special needs people, was running loose in my neck of the woods, I was aware all day and ready to deal with him had we met each other acquaintance.

I've left mine upon the rare occasion in the carseat. Of course they were one piece models that were strapped in the car like a they were at Daytona Motor Speedway back in the day. These days it's not difficult to pluck the chair from the mount.

The woman could have at least taken the keys out and locked the car.

 

My mom did that with me and all four of my brothers hundreds of times when we were little. She had three kids under the age of 5 at one point. Are you supposed to drag all three of them into the gas station to put $20 on pump seven? Take the keys & lock the doors, and then you'll be coming back to your car and children in a matter of a minute or two.

 

And not a chance that the mom didn't learn the biggest lesson of her life yesterday. I don't see what criminal charges or anything like that would accomplish.

Also, didn't this same scenario play out at one of the gas stations right by the 4th street entrance ramps to I-75 in Covington a few years back? If I recall, there was a child sleeping in a car seat in a minivan.

Criminal charges for the woman? Heck no. She just suffered an awful ordeal. She used poor judgement. I bet she never does it again. She needs to be forgiven and she needs to forgive herself, and get back to being a mommy to those kids. They need her.

So what is the point of the charges here?

 

-Teach mom a lesson? ...she's learned on. A HUGE one.

 

-Protect the kid(s)? Trust me, mom isn't going to be repeating this mistake.

 

-Spend frivolous money in the court system and add this kid to the register of foster kids bouncing around the US foster care system? Sounds like a great idea.

I am in the camp that thinks there should be no criminal charges. I understand and do not condone what she did, but agree she learned a lesson more than she could fined or incarcerated. A waste of time and money to charge her.

There are two reasons for imprisonment. To rehabilitate someone or to keep them from harming others. Locking this lady up does what to this woman that hasn't already been done?

 

A fine is a waste of time.
