There are two reasons for imprisonment. To rehabilitate someone or to keep them from harming others. Locking this lady up does what to this woman that hasn't already been done? A fine is a waste of time.

In a small town her actions would be completely in the norm.

On charging the mother, I can tell you it was standard practice in the past when you found an unattended child in a car (usually at the mall) to report them to child services (bound by law) and often times charge them criminally.

 

No idea what happens here because of her being a victim but at the least this should be reported to child services for follow up.

You are right. I am going to bet they are already involved, but I doubt that anything will come of it. That mother certainly learned her lesson the hard way. Unfortunately, children's services have far worse things on their plates.

If true, she should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, two counts.

Another train of thought here, a sane person wouldn't let that baby out of their sight in the near future. Again, if this is true I think an investigation needs to be done to determine if the mother doesn't want the child and is intentionally putting the child in harms way.

 

And before any of you haters say no bleeping way ask yourself why she would leave the child unattended again.

 

The Florence Police Department can either come out looking like a star on this one or have it blow up in their lap do to inaction. Remember powers that be, the way you get in trouble in law enforcement is inaction.

I saw that too. Sounds like a problem to me.

Interestingly, I was very close to the speedway when this incident occurred. I noticed tons of police officers but didn't know what was going on until an hour or so later.

That was bogus. The picture wasn't even the same car and you can't read the license plate.

Yesterday the news said the FBI took the car to search for evidence. Can't imagine a government agency would be efficient enough to get her car back that quickly.
