Lots of variants about the whats and whys of their names...but all of them lead back to lightning and thunder...which both of names translate to.

 

German: Donner (Thunder) and Blitzen (Lightning)

Dutch: Dunder (Thunder) and Blixem (Lightning)

To be fair to your wife, when Clement Moore wrote the poem naming them, he called the last two "Dunder" and "Blixem".

For the baseball folks, if someone is brought up from Triple A for one game, is a difference maker, then is placed back in Triple A for the rest of their careers, would you consider that person as part of the team? I wouldn't. You pull the team photo and Rudolph is not in it.

He may not be in the team photo but he gets a major league pension for that one game.

Team Photo is taken in the spring, we all know Rudolph was a mid season call up. But once he got his chance in the show he never went back down.

Rudolph isn't Rudy, he wasn't a one shot flash in the pan or sympathy start. He earned his spot and performed at a high level when he got his shot.
