Let's be real, the average life of a reindeer is up to 15 years for a wild one and up to 20 for one in captivity. So I'd imagine they have about 10 years to pull Santa's sled and maybe 6-7 when they are in their prime.

 

So Santa has probably had many reindeer pull his sled. In one of the Santa Claus movies, I believe the third, you see reindeer in training.

 

So, Santa has had many more reindeer, you just don't know them by name outside of the 9.

Rudolph is a sub. "Santa's Reindeer" are the eight mentioned in Clement Moore's "A Visit from St. Nicholas".

Hard to say. The reindeer were first written about in 1823. Similarly, the story of Rudolph's big moment was recounted in a 1939 poem. The reindeer could have been around long before 1823 and Rudolph's first trip could have happened any year between 1823 and 1938.
