What would happen if a bunch quit calling games over this? They make mistakes in all levels. Wonder if this has ever been done before to a crew of officials?

Unless the rule changed recently it sounds like that Dixie TD should not have been reversed.

 

2009 was the first year for the rule, and that Dixie game was in 2009.

Human error. Unfortunate, but it happens in every sport. Glad to see there is some level of accountability being assessed against the crew and the association. Still stinks for Murray.

Considering the call was "game impacting" is the reason they were suspended. Errors are made in many games in all sports, but when you take points off the board in a game like that someone has to be accountable. Kudos to Julian and his staff.

This is same infraction that was misapplied in the Oklahoma game that has suspended the playoffs.

This is as bad as that botched HR call at State Tournament this year.

 

What about the incorrectly called 2-pointer in OT of the 2011 Basketball State Championship? DJ Townsend of Rowan made a 3 with his foot on the college 3-point line with about 10 sec left in OT. It was called a 2 point shot and put Rowan down 3 instead of 2. Christian County followed by missing the front end of a one and one. Rowan rebounded and Darrell Cross made a 3 at the buzzer to send it into double overtime, would have been the game winner of the correct call was made. Anyone remember this? Anyone know if any sanctions were handed out?

Khsaa is opening a can of worms and Murray has more appeal processed then I have ever seen.

 

What I have a problem with is why does everyone (other schools) never get things appealed?

Can we replay the State Finals game then, please?

So where was any supporting KHSAA function to assist with correcting this? There was no overseer of the officials to assist with such a blown call in a state championship? Given the emphasis on the clear sidelines support staff on the sideline or in the pressbox should have jumped in.

It is hard to believe that someone on the crew didn't know the application of the rule, or that during a conference (I assume they conferenced ?) they couldn't work it out. It is a hazard of the profession and all officials make mistakes…I feel bad for everyone in this case, players, parents, officials, coaches and the other team.

Glad to KHSAA take action and admit it was blown at the time.

That's what i was thinking. Anytime a press release is as long as the lord of the rings, somebody somewhere is covering something up.

 

But my other reaction is ...little bit of an overreaction. Calls are blown all the time. Calls that impact the game. What about holding calls that aren't made that allow that touchdown pass to be made? This isn't a slippery slope, it's a cliff.

 

I mean, as much as I don't like Murray, and it's a lot lol, they got a terrible call. And I disagree that the call has to be made every time. It shouldn't have been called, and then they botched the application of the call. Murray got it twice. But to think this is special, a bad call heaven forbid, and to react this strongly, just seems wrong to me.

It was the week before in the semi-finals I believe.

Once again, this was another case of an official throwing a flag behind the play that had no bearing on the outcome of the play other than the assessed penalty.

Murrays' coach was on the local news tonight and said "it would not be easily forgotten"
