How many games did Harris play? I know I tuned in to watch him earlier in the year on ESPN and he did not play, did he ever make it back after that game?

Sometimes it's as simple as the ol' eyeball test.

 

They beat both Highlands & Hoptown with Kenner & Pinner earlier in the year I believe in 95. There are 2 solids right there. Schedule and postseason strength should factor but Couch had everything he needed.

When I watch him play he is just on another level compared to everyone else. The only RB that I have seen that might be better is Alexander, and I say Alexander gets the nod, but his team around him was waaaay better than what is around Harris. I can give different things to describe him but IMO the best way to sum it up is that he is very special!

 

 

 

Now, just because I think Harris is the best, doesn't mean I don't think they aren't other great candidates who are very talented.

I'm with Clyde on this one. You can look at stats and you can look at strength of schedule (which is still a very gray area since we all argue how good team really are), but many times you have to see the player in person. Team records should be irrelevant when deciding the best player in the state. Football is the ultimate team sport. 1 player cannot carry a team to a state championship. Case in point, which I'm sure I'll get ripped for bringing up soccer in a football thread, but look at this year's Ms. Soccer (another team sport). She came from a team that finished the season 8-8-2 and lost in the first round of the regional tournament.

I just think that Harris' name recognition is so far above any other candidate that he will win it despite his shortened season. Not saying it's right, just that Mr. Football often goes to the best known player, not necessarily the one who played the best that particular year.

No one is saying it is not a team sport. A Mr. Football is able to raise the level of play for his team by what he does or does not do on the field IMO. Beau Hoge has done just that. A kid that plays half a season is not Mr. Football in any state IMO. This is an award based upon 2014 and not what was done before that or might be done after that. If we do not want to give it to the best football player, but rather to the most popular and recognizable name, then that tarnishes the award anyway. If 75% of the past winners were playing on finals weekend, then that ought to tell you something.

Well as good as Harris might be and even more popular you can't give any award to a player only playing half of his teams games.

If I remember correctly Austin Collinsworth didn't win it because he was hurt for 3 or 4 games. Isn't that what everyone was saying in the Mr. Football thread 4 or 5 years ago. Kind of hypocritical don't you think?

Beau Hoge, Drew Moore, Alex Venneman

I would love to see any of those 3 win, but Elijah Sindelar has to be the front runner.

I think Sindelar gets it with Hoge as runner-up.

 

Personally I would like to see Reese Ryan from LexCath as a finalist. Over 3,000 yards passing, 37 TDs in the air and 6 on the ground with a TD to Int ratio of over 4, and set the LexCath season season completion percentage record at 69%. Did this while leading team to state semis against a very good schedule.

Runner-Up: Beau Hoge QB Highlands

Other Finalists: Cody Crider RB Graves Co

Damien Harris RB Madison Southern (He's too big of a name this year to be completely left off and in the 6 games he played he was the best player in the state).

These are always tough to judge.. Its almost like judging a beauty contest. I think Harris missing that chunk of games did hurt his chances. I think he is probably everyone's favorite college prospect but you have to vote for a candidate that played all season. Sindlear or Hoge gets the nod. I think Hoge proved more against better teams, but I think voters are too much into stats and career acheivemets. Eye test I would go with Hoge but I wouldn't be shocked if Sindlear wins

I agree. I don't know Hoge's numbers for the season but I believe Sindelar's are better although the competition wasn't as good imo. With that said I don't think the powers that be who vote on this award really look that much at compeition as much as name recognition from the beginning of the season and I think Elijah wins because of that. I think Sindelar has something like 46 TD's and only 3 Int's with over 3000 passing yards this year. I think it would be tough to beat him out.
