This is what I think, too. It's hard to take the name-recognition aspect out of the equation, kind of like political elections. It is not a perfect world in which we live.

Number two ranked recruit in the state and the coach switched him to OL? Did he play OL on offense and still played ILB on D? I don't understand why a coach would make this switch on a young man who is getting attention from D1 schools unless he gained too much weight to be effective at the position. Coaches are supposed to help their kids be successful and get recruited but sounds like this coach hurt this kid.

Based upon what exactly? How many games did he play this year? That is what I thought. How many state titles did he lead his team to? That is what I thought. Beau Hoge for Mr. Football, without a doubt.

While that is true he should also realize the work these kids have put into this sport. At 6'1 230 Smith is not going to go anywhere to play OL. But that is a very respectable size for a D1 LB. I just feel like the coach left Smith out to dry by moving him to the OL. Even if it was the best move for his team.

If you're still going to make the number two ranked recruit in the state play defense after already switching him to OL.... Why not let him play where he's been most impactful and where he has a chance to go to the next level? I just don't understand.
