When I say "clearly hit his arm" I'm referring to arm extension. Not just a bump. Whether it was a slap, a tap, or a punch, the arm appeared to be extended. Again, I don't know about intent, and all I can assume is the official saw something in the hit that warranted the ejection.

I was wrong on whose possession it was on the inbound. SV's player was facing Ahfeld w/ his back to the official. That part is correct. Ahfeld hit his arm away. It was a reactionary call in a game that got away from the official.

I can assure you that summit view was inbounding the ball. Whether or not hitting a players arm is a clear excuse for ejection, I guess is up to the officials discretion. I'm assuming he thought the contact was of malice and had some sort of intent. I can't get into the thought process of the player, I can only describe the action. Nonetheless, in a middle school game, I believe it's important to teach players to control emotions as much as you can, certainly before entering HS where things can get really chippy. Maybe this was the refs intent, who knows. Hard fought game on both sides, HMS got the win.

 

I am 100% sure that it wasn't. These 2 teams had played 3 times in the past 2 weeks. All 3 were feisty. If the ref was trying to put the kabash on emotions taking over the games, the 1st quarter would have been a great time to start now in the dying seconds of the game.

You're still implying that SVs player had his arm on the Highlands player, or grabbing his jersey, as you stated previously. This makes no sense being that this SV player was the last option in the press break. He was on the complete opposite side of the floor, opposite the ball, and below the elbow. Not to mention, SVMS hadn't had any problems breaking the press at any point in the game, so it's not like that SV player had to fight for position. It may have been a "reactionary" call, but it was based on the action of the highlands player, who was visibly upset about the previous play (and I mean, competitively upset, not appearing to be "ready to fight" upset). And, to add, it was a 4 point game, not a 6 point game at the time.

I do agree with you here. End it early. But, were these the same officials as in the previous 2 meetings?

 

Two good teams doing battle, it was close late, emotions will inevitably take over, especially with young kids. Highlands won the game with strong play, as they have done many times this year. Kudos.

Not sure if its worth mentioning but Highlands 8th swept all of the competition in the St. Thomas Tournament. I think the avg margin scoring difference was like 20+ points with wins over St. Therese, St. Catherine and Villa Madonna in the Championship game. In fact they won by 30+ over Villa to take the crown.

 

Ben Zalla is a very nice player for Villa. Does anyone know if he is headed to CovCath or will stay at Villa?

I believe he is headed to Park Hills. Next year's freshman basketball class at CovCath has the potential to be as good, if not better, as this year's class.

Covcath will be loaded next year. Thelen and Coldiron are known talents but the kid from Cardinal Pachelli, a Moeller feeder, will be the gem of the group. A nice talent with a strong basketball iq.

Not quite sure on the game, but I got an opportunity to watch Conner's 7th grader Jared Hicks over the weekend and that kid is a VERY good basketball player. Fun to watch, great handles, even better jump shot and very aggressive when ball is in his hands. I was truly impressed.
