Burfict fined $25,000 for twisting ankles

Featured Replies

The whole fine structure is a complete farce in fairness. 25K to a guy making the minimum is a hit. To an elite paid player making 15-20M; 25K is a drop in the bucket.

They should go to % of base pay fines.

Examples - 1% for uniform violations

2% for on-performance drugs

3% for in game play of safety violations (head to head; personal foul stuff)

5% for intentional injury

These are off the top of my head and have not been researched, but you get the point. So a guy that has a uniform violation making 1M is fined 10K, making 10M is fined 100K. To me that is fair based on income.

PR move by the league. They knew they couldn't let him off with nothing so they gave him a minimal fine. Now they hope no other teams and coaches make a fuss about something that happens every week in the NFL.

$5600 for chucking a ball in the stands. Just sayin.

Or even handing it to a fan in the stands.

Maybe there's a Pentagon contract involved with the production of footballs.

Anyone care to speculate on the penalty had it been Suh or Harrison instead of Burfict?

Has Burfict been fined before? I'm pretty sure the other 2 have been so naturally theirs would be higher with a possible suspension.

First, I think there are very few players in the league who would do this type of thing intentionally. Second, if they did, they would get caught. There are 5-10 cameras on the ball at the end of every play in the NFL.

I agree that the league had to do something. I would not call a $25k fine minimal though...that is a pretty healthy fine IMO.

If the thought was intentionally injuring another player this fine is weak when compared to some of the others doled out.

Too bad the NFL won't let the players self-police these problems as they occur during the games.

Roger Goodell is yet to see the video evidence.

I know right!?
