I'd give her more of a "push" on the coal issue but she definitely didn't hurt herself especially with her talk on coal miner benefits and the balancing of the coal industry with climate change.

 

If I noticed one common them with your play by play ALG's answer for every problem was more government. If I'm McConnell's campaign I have a new theme for my ad times moving forward.

Sounds a little like modern day JFK/Nixon. I am sure Grimes was softer on the eyes ... and ears...

Tried my best as I knew some wouldn't be able to see it. Laptop charger currently isn't working so typing on my iPad was the best I could do. Can't type nearly as much but easier summaries are a good trade off as a result.

Surprising. I guess I was just so stunned by McConnell's sleepy monotone that I missed some of the impact of what he said.

 

Pundits thought McConnell could lose if he appeared condescending or come off as a bully. Most thought he avoided that and came with substance. I don't think anyone would disagree on him being monotone but I don't think any KY voter would expect anything else from him.

Interesting to see other peoples perspective. McConnell came across just as he is, did anyone think he was gonna come off as some really upbeat rah rah guy? That is just not him. He was easily more substanstive and knowledgeable than Grimes albeit she is much easier on the eyes. I think she will get killed again with the "more government" theme which is odd in that she says she wont be a rubber stamp for the Democrats. As for coal, does anyone REALLY believe her on that issue, certainly not.

McConnell's closing statement was worse than his performance in the debate. My goodness, I am just stunned at how bad McConnell came across. I don't know if debates win or lose votes but Grimes has to be overjoyed with how this went for her tonight.

 

Did we watch the same debate? I wasn't all that enamored with McConnell and he was week on a couple of responses but Grimes did not look good and tried to deflect several times like bringing up the Koch brothers twice. You only do that when you have no answers.

 

This debate reiterated one thing.for me that ALG will be completely lost and overwhelmed on capitol hill.

If Grimes is elected it will almost be as embarrassing as when Yarmuth was elected,,,,,almost.

MM much more in tune with whats happening. ALG stance that raising minimum wage will help the middle class is just wrong. She also said it was the governments role to help people. Not sure if I agree with that stance. Student loan debt? Deal with it, we all had it. Paid mine in 8 years.

How does raising minimum wage help the middle class?

1. Grimes is not ready..

2. Mitch has been there too long.

3. Mitch will have more clout in DC than Grimes.

4. Mitch is a part of the problem in DC.

McConnell is who he is, a statesman. He is not going to be easily flustered and is pretty straight forward with a monotone delivery.

Grimes did OK, but she lacks substance and didn't seem real specific.

 

She was at an extreme experience disadvantage and in a debate like this you need something to differentiate yourself from the veteran. You have to be dynamic and specific. I don't think she came across as that.

 

Coal and ObamaCare are losing issues for Grimes. She is at the mercy of her party with those issues. She knows they are losing issues. Heck, she will not admit that she voted for Obama, that is how toxic it is position wise for her.

 

Minimum wage hurt her. Just like ObamaCare hurt employees with companies cutting hours from 40 to 32, you will see reduced hiring with a minimum wage increase.

 

Grimes did OK, McConnell had no major errors.

I agree somewhat with paragraph one.

 

Paragraph two does not fit with what I saw out of Grimes.

It doesn't but it sure makes a nice sound bite doesn't it.
