That looks like what happened to me as well...I don't think he intentionally tried to hit the other driver.

I DO think he meant to get close as he could and it ended in tragedy.

 

It's a tragedy. Preventable by both parties but there's no way to fix it now.

I don't see where he intentionally spun Ward out and don't see where he intentionally hit him. I see the car in front of him swerve and then Tony try to swerve at last minute. I don't think he saw him until last second. Pretty dumb to get out of car in the dark and approach cars coming at you. Looked like they were still going pretty fast.

I think it would be hard to prove that, but yeah that would be huge.

 

It would seem like an episode of CSI if it's proven he did it on purpose.

If you listen to the video, it sure sounds like he revs his engine and speeds up.

For a guy that races whenever he can, nascar or not, owns race cars, owns tracks, preaches the safety at tracks, I really find it hard he intentionally tried to run someone over someone. Just too much at stake that for someone like that. I don't see where the video could prove intent. The other guy jumps out of car, on a dark track, in a black fire suit, while cars are still driving pretty fast and approaches traffic, I chalk it up to an unfortunate accident.

This really puts a bulls eye on racing.

The kid will take the fall because he got out of the car. Firecracker Tony Stewart will read his prepared condolence and move on, he wanted to race today. His career is over even though he will still race.

I agree. It does sound like he hit the gas as he went by and made the car fishtail.

I am not a race car fan by any means. I do not know anything about any of the drivers.

Being as objective as I can be, my first reaction was how foolish to get out of your car and start walking in the path of moving vehicles.

It's a road rage situation where the kid gave Tony a chance and he took it.

If I'm Bass Pro or whoever, I'm ending my partnership with Stewart tomorrow.

I put both of them with fault and blame.

The kid should never stand in the middle of the track and tony has always had a temper and wouldn't surprise me if he tried to get as close to him as possible to send a message but got a little too close and tragedy.

 

The car in front of Tonys was able to avoid him by a lot and it didn't look as if Tony made any effort to avoid him and instead went straight for him.

 

Tony will get off because he is Tony Stewart. Unfortunately both were at fault and it left a 19 year old dead.

 

It's entirely possible the car in front blocked tonys view. Also, this isn't NASCAR...not exactly easy to see everything out on a dirt track.

 

Isn't this a perfect example of why eye witnesses are unreliable?

Stewart has always been short fused. Watching the video you can hear his engine rev before he hits him which caused the rear end to drift. That wasn't swerving. No doubt in my mind he was trying to intimidate the kid and tragedy struck. Both parties were negligent in this incident. Hopefully this puts an end to the antics we see on track with drivers jumping out of their cars and acting a fool.
