Why would Stewart be mad at a car/driver that was half car behind him that went wide and hit the wall. I see no reason from that little bit of video for Stewart to have any reason to be upset. If he had no reason to be mad, then why would he formulate this great plan to embarrass the kid in less than 2 or 3 seconds that he would have had after seeing the kid on the track, by slinging mud on him.

Its not like he chased him down. The kid walked into the middle of the track directly at Stewart's car.

 

I don't know what was going through Stewart's head or what he meant to do. I don't see how anyone can claim with certainty that they do.

 

I don't think anyone's claiming they know with certainty. I also don't think anyone is saying the kid bears no responsibility.

 

Tony has a history of losing his cool and I don't think he appreciated the kid trying to show him up. Did any other cars have to "drift" to make the turn on that caution? I didn't see it if they did. I think the majority of racing fans lean towards part of the tragedy is due to "Tony being Tony"

I really wish there was video of what Tony did right afterwards, did he run to see if the kid was ok,etc.?(didn't seem like it) How did he get from his car, off of the track and out of the area? The people that were videoing sounded mad as did the crowd in the background, did he need police escort? So many unanswered questions, why hasn't he spoken, explained or apologized? I've hit a dog by accident and pulled over right away and got out to see if it was ok, it tore me up. The video of him just sitting there in his car, waiting for someone to come and get him rubs me the wrong way

The video of him sitting there was for a very brief moment, he very well could have been unbuckling his restraints and he was probably shaking from the incident. I don't know how quick I could have jumped out of the car under those circumstances.

Nothing really new in that article as far as I could tell. Police still say he's cooperating and that as of now there is nothing suggesting anything criminal.

 

I guess what I saw that might be new is the opinions of legal experts familiar with NY law that thought he could still be charged with second degree manslaughter even if it was determined that TS did not intend to kill, hurt, or scare Ward. Personally, I don't know a lot about sprint cars, but I am keeping up with the opinions and views of this thread.

So you think Tony didn't know he put him in the wall, and saw his car up there after the fact from the other side of the track? Perhaps you should add that to your query. It's a sprint car. You can nearly touch the other cars from your seat. He knew he planted the kid. If we dispute that, well, I don't know what footing we are arguing on then, because it's not level.

IMO, from what I can see on the video, Stewart didn't touch Ward. Looked like ward lost it and slide up into the wall.

He has raced 1000's and 1000's of times with no blow up, but since he has blown up in probably less than 1% of all of his races he has ran he must have had it out for this kid. Does anyone really think this kid was so under his skin he thought he had to do something to put him in his place after the kid spun out. I'd say there is a better chance that he didn't even know who spun out next to him than he was all consumed with some plotting some revenge.

Your post clearly stated that you did not think that I didn't think that Stewart knew he "planted planted that kid" and that if we disputed that we were not on level ground. I never said anything of the sort.

 

Knowing Stewart's reputation I would argue that it was more likely that, instead of being mad, that he thought it was funny that he spun the kid. It's just a big stretch fit me to believe that he could see what was going on, get that angry about it, formulate his plan and carry it out in that time frame. Especially since he hadn't been wrecked.

If all you're saying is that you don't think he premeditated whacking that kid, I agree. If you are saying that in the heat of the moment he tried to buzz the kid, I also agree. Heck, I'm so confused at what anyone believes, I think I'm out of this one.

That's you. I've followed Nascar since the 90s and Tony has always been the most volatile driver in this time period. I've stated already that Tony's past transgressions definitely play a part in my view of the events. His past won't be ignored by me.

But nahhhhh....Tony would never purposely hurt someone on the track. Nahhhhh, not Tony. He has no past to indicate that he is a hot head who can't control his emotions on the track. Nahhhhhhhh......
