Its not like he chased him down. The kid walked into the middle of the track directly at Stewart's car. I don't know what was going through Stewart's head or what he meant to do. I don't see how anyone can claim with certainty that they do.

Tony has a history of losing his cool and I don't think he appreciated the kid trying to show him up. Did any other cars have to "drift" to make the turn on that caution? I didn't see it if they did. I think the majority of racing fans lean towards part of the tragedy is due to "Tony being Tony"

A pot hole in the ground is a tad different than a person, standing up, at the scene of a wreck...

 

He easily could have been blocked from TS sight until the car in front of TS passed him, that is the point I'm trying to make. Also if TS was expecting him to be on the track and then as the car in front of him clears Ward, BAM there he is with almost no time to react. If I'm TS I'm not expecting to see a driver running across the track at me...then by the time I see him it's too late to react.

He didn't walk out towards the other cars like he did Stewart...and the car in front of Stewart looked like it made a quick movement to avoid him.

Because he used his psychopathic powers to know when he took the "high line" (actually just behind the car he was following) that Ward was going to jump out of his car and run at him and he wanted to be ready...all while mumbling, Redrum Redrum!!!

He wasn't. The first car to pass as Ward comes around the track pointing (2 in front of Stewart) was higher then Stewart. Had Ward been standing where he was when Stewart hit him that guy would have flat ran him over.

There was no evidence from the video that tony was "drifting". He is "loose" when he enters the frame but that could easily be from him trying to avoid Ward.

I don't think Stewart did wreck him, at least from what is shown on the video. You can see them come in front of the grand stand and they are several feet apart. As they go into the turn it doesn't appear to me that Stewart touched him. It looks like to me Ward just looses it and hits the wall. That could have easily flattened his tire. Maybe they traded paint prior to what his seen on the video but....
