Wondering whether the new superintendent (from Hardin County) would have input on next coach? Or is this hire mostly up to AD? And what about site-based council?

 

I just have a feeling that the new coach will come from outside the district, despite the late date.

 

Also, shouldn't Bob Huggins have a say, since Beetle is headed his way in a year? (Just kidding.)

 

Tony Perkins was a longtime boys' assistant at North Hardin (under Ron Bevars) before becoming a girls' head coach at North Hardin.

 

The superintendent (Alvin Garrison) came from John Hardin and has strong ties to Elizabethtown Independent.

 

But at this time, this late in the game (school starting) for the life of me can't name a veteran candidate from Hardin County.

 

It is interesting, though, that Casey County boys' coach Maze Stallworth is the all-time leading scorer in John Hardin history. Not sure if Stallworth teaches at Casey County, so job wise he might be more prone to move than a another coach-teacher.

Job hasn't been posted yet at the county level. Would make one think this late in the game someone from within is who they have in mind and rightfully so in Coach L. On another note I would think the Holmes job would be one quite a few head coaches would jump ship for at even this late date as it seems to me from the FAR outside looking in it is a top tier job in Kentucky. What jobs are better outside of a few in Louisville & Lexington and the Scott County job. Not saying there aren't any, I am actually asking as I study Ky hs b-ball pretty darn close but don't know the absolute ins and outs of each job. Holmes seems to have talent most years and the payscale in Covington and coaching supplement is pretty good, so if you have good support from the administration and fans it seems like a very good one. Enlighten me if I am wrong. Thanks!

Even at his teams that were most equipped to run and play the faster style of ball, he would constantly slow them down with his chants of 'Patience' and 'Slow Down'.

Which is why I asked in post #76 if the kids would buy into his style. Bulldogs have always been a run and gun offense and most of the time playing smothering defense to get that fast break going. Usually in the past they had no size and this style benefited the well.

I don't think there would be much change in style of play if Coach L took the reins. Really, Bulldogs haven't been run-and-gun for the past 17 years or so. Henley took over in '97-'98 and emphasized defense, and Booher emphasized a control game.

Seriously? Wow, I haven't seen a game involving Holmes in a while but the last time I did it seemed like they were a fast break type team with a smothering defense. It must have been longer than I thought, sheesh.

Bulldogs played more up-tempo under Mike Flynn in late '80s till when he quit in '96. I remember one barn-burner at Holmes in mid '90s vs. Scott County -- something like 88-85. Contrast that with the 32-29 9th Region final vs. Boone the year Holmes won it all.

Yeah, I guess that 3 point line has some to do with it, too many guys stopping and popping. Three point line didn't come into HS ball until '87, much later than my time.

The last time I saw Holmes play up-tempo basketball was this past season and this summer, pretty much every game. Some individual players may not be as quick as those from teams past and the current Dawgs can implement a half-court offense just fine, but the overall style hasn't changed over the past few years.

Sounds like it will be Coach L.
