Practicing in Pads? Paducah Sun

Featured Replies

Miss a scrimmage. The other team can go participate in a 3 way or 4 way scrimmage. Scrimmages don't have to be 1 team vs 1 team anymore. This won't penalize an innocent team. This is the same coach that got penalized for having a scrimmage during the dead period several years ago.

No but if it is a scrimmage were the varsity, jv, and freshman are scheduled to play, there is a time limit.

Are you 100% sure about that Ram where cameras and news media are concerned? I know a team punished a couple years ago fairly heavy handed for a similar situation.

No, not 100% sure, but most government agencies require a written complaint by a third party to start the investigative process.

Purely for the sake of discussion:

If this were ruled to be a violation what would you all see as the proper punishment?

Lose a scrimmage?

Forfeit a game?

Monetary Fines?

Slap on the wrist verbally and probation?

The punishment should be a loss of a scrimmage, a fine, and investigative costs, based on previous punishments for similar offenses.

Myself personally don't see it as a flagrant offense, but others may. With that said, it is not only clear he would have broken the rule...but broke it 3 times and his team would have gained an edge over everyone else.

Think it is a little more than a slap on a wrist, but the punishment also can't negatively affect another program who was innocent. Thus don't think you can pull their scrimmage or 7 vs. 7 rights because then you are potentially jeopardizing hurting another program.

IMHO the proper punishment would be take away practices equal to the number that they illegally had participated in. If McCracken practiced three days in pads when they were not allowed then they have to choose 3 days of practice when full pads are allowed and forfeit those days.

Agree. And I'm sure this stuff goes on WAY more than we know.

Plus maybe the head coach being suspended a game or two.

This proves you can hardly get away with anything now days with the internet and camera phones.

It is hard to believe but why would he allow the paper in to take pictures?

It really was a honest. though stupid mistake. They didn't realize the mistake until they got the call after someone read about it in the Sun and apparently called the KHSAA. Haskins had someone else who was in charge of keeping all the dates straight and he bungled it. Well this is what I was told by someone close to the program anyway

Haskins must be a liberal and follow what Obama does, Obama blames everyone else too.

Haskins gets an email just like every head coach, it's his fault.

That is very true.

Nothing against Haskins, but I love mountain ref.

I really don't believe that. Each head coach gets an email explaining the start rules.

As Cris Carter would say, "CMON MAN"

Sounds like a very dumb excuse. Haskins is always trying to get an edge.

I ask again, if it was not a mistake, explain his allowing the paper to come in and do a story with pictures.

It's Haskins
