Practicing in Pads? Paducah Sun

Featured Replies

No one could wear helmets in practice until yesterday unless you were 7-7 with another team.

NO ONE can be in full gear until Aug 1

Can't wear shoulder pads until next Tuesday on 28th.

McCracken should be punished by taking away scrimmage for breaking rules, plus if a kid gets hurt the school and coach are liable and open to lawsuit. It's the way the world is today. No court would side with the coach for breaking rules or claiming not knowing.

Only if it does not cause to team they were supposed to scrimmage to miss out too.

Now that the McCracken County football team is allowed to wear shoulder pads during practice, head coach Jack Haskins has begun to get a feel for w...

For the three practice days in shoulder pads and helmets, there can be no contact with other players, only with sleds and dummies.

Clear proof that a coach is watching contact take place on Tuesday, July 22.

Other team just has to find another scrimmage, it happens every year and team are still looking for scrimmages an learn not to schedule a team that cheats like that.

I am curious to see how the KHSAA handles this one. If anything at all happens.

Someone has to file a complaint first.

I'm sure nothing will happen, but if schools complain something may come of it. Not fair to the other 95% of schools who abide by rules.

I think Julian should respond on this thread. If no action is taken I think everyone should just start practicing in full pads right now.

Any chance the picture in the paper is a file photo from last year and the comments made in error?

From the article:

The Mustangs put on the pads for the first time this summer on Monday, and are beginning to mix in some contact drills during their practice.

"Now you can actually play the game", Haskins said in regards to what adding pads in practice can do. "Otherwise it's all repetition and assignment drills. Now we can get an ideal of what kids can do things right on offense and defense".

I disgaree with the rules. I understand it is about safety. I have been around this game a long time and pads are not the issue with heat related injuries. It is poor judgement.

Wow! Coach Haskins is no rookie either!

How in the world can he miss the rule? It's obvious he doesn't know it. If it were an attempt to get around the rules there would be nothing in the paper.

:no::no::no:

Why would they use a file photo for the front page of the Paducah Sun?

Do you also disagree with the heat index chart rules that the KHSAA provides regarding the removal of helmets and shoulder pads?

Are you 100% sure about that Ram where cameras and news media are concerned? I know a team punished a couple years ago fairly heavy handed for a similar situation.

Are they in pads today and no way the khsaa commish speaks about it.
