1996 Dayton Greendevils. Jason Skirvin was the best RB in the region. Sorry to Frisk and Woolfeck but he was better!

The 1975 Raceland team was very, very good. That was at a time when only the district champion advanced to the playoffs so that first playoff was the regional championship. Raceland lost to a Ludlow team that won the state title that season. That was one of many years that Raceland lost in the playoffs to the team that won a state championship. For quite a few years that team to eliminate Raceland was Beechwood, Bellevue or NCC. LCA in later years knocked was in the district, usually the two met again in the playoffs.

Back to the 1975 year, as I said that was a very powerful Raceland team that lost to Ludlow. There were two Ram football H.O.F. Members on that team in all state RB T. Howell and OL/DL Mike Mills and I look for possibly another one or two from that team to eventually make the Ram H.O.F..

I cannot remember the spelling at all but Ludlow had a RB that was unstoppable. My attempt at the spelling is (and any NKY fans forgive me)....Loacasak ?? Pronounced like LOAK-A-SACK.

For me, even as a BW fan, I have to go with the Dayton guys and to say the '96 Green Devils.

I will say the 2003 Beechwood team. IMO they were loaded and I am still stunned that they not only lost in the title game but lost pretty badly. It just goes to show how good I believe that Danville team was.

The Dragons tied Lynch that season. Lynch won the district and won the state championship. Harlan didn't make the playoffs and I don't think they lost a game, one at the most, and had the one tie.

Since they have already been mentioned multiple times as beating teams who were great, that 1993 Bardstown team went 14-0 until the state finals and lost by a single point, 13-12. It doesn't get much closer than that.

That Bardstown club avoided a couple pratfalls on the way to the championship game that season. Garrard County missed a field goal at the buzzer in the regional final, which Bardstown won 14-13. The next weekend Bardstown won at a fantastic Fulton County team, 7-0. (Too bad westsider isn't here anymore to tell you guys some stories he told me about that Fulton County team). But Bardstown was a terrific team.

Give me '93 NewCath. Beat Beechwood in the regular season, should have beaten Highlands and lost on a controversial fake field goal. Lost to Beechwood in the playoffs. I can still see Hergott running down the sideline. Not the most mobile QB, but he looked fast on that play.

I'll see your 93 NCC team and raise you a Beechwood 2000 team. Only allowed 20 points in regular season and I believe only 7 of those were scored on first team. Allowed 0 points from Week 3 until the the playoff loss. If I recall correctly 10 of NCC's 17 points came off turnovers. Beat a good Sheldon Clark team, shutout CovCath, shutout NCC.

Feels nice to have recognition of beechwood fans. That Dayton team was something special, that this city has been dying for ever since.

How? I get that they MAY have won state, but if they couldn't get out of districts, how would they have "easily" won a championship.

 

Wouldn't they have eventually ran into the same team that prevented them from reaching the playoffs?

I'm not saying it wouldn't happen, but that Paris team lost to Madison in the regular season, which cost them a playoff berth. Madison lost to Carroll County in the regional final and then Carroll lost by four touchdowns to Crittenden County, who then won the whole thing. So Paris winning it all in 1985 could have happened, but there would have been a lot of hurdles.
