Didn't the same type of thing happen to the previous AD? I think the problems they are having is because of the hiring of coaches by the former AD.

I'm certain that Adam must have had a commitment from Coach Howard before releasing the info that he was our new head coach. Apparently there was backlash within the Thunder organization that caused Coach Howard to re-think his decision before signing on the dotted line with us.

 

We all liked Melvin. He was here for 24 years for God's sake. He is our friend. We all felt bad when he was let go but it was something that unfortunately had to happen from a business standpoint. The other option was that teachers were going to lose their jobs. Were I a paid employee of the school I'm sure I would have gotten the same walking papers regardless of what kind of job I do, and believe it or not, there are probably some people out there who would think it unacceptable that I had been let go because of my dedication to the program for all these years. It's business, it happens.

 

Adam Franzen has been thrust into a difficult (understatement) football situation. He's actually doing a heck of a job trying to clean up a mess that maybe should have been addressed last fall, and not this June. When you have an 18 man roster and 9 graduate, perhaps then you should concern yourself with the viability and sustainability of the program - not after schedules are made and contracts are signed and practice is about to begin. Adam also had nothing to do with the proclamation that we were going to play an independent schedule this season. That too was the previous administration.

 

The bottom line is that we are quite aware that our football program appears to be very unstable right now. That is certainly not a major revelation. However, I do think that we are doing our best to give it a chance to survive, and I sincerely believe that better days are ahead. Check back with me in 3/4 years, and my bet is that we will still be playing Brossart football and that the program will be on firm footing.

I'm sure Adam is doing a fine job and I have heard he works extremely hard at it. Brossart Football has been a losing battle for a while now. Unfortunately kids don't transfer to Brossart for Football. It's a tough gig for any coach to pull off, but when a coach that can't win a game in Pee Wee football is hired on one of the toughest years they will have, doesn't look good. That was the only reason for my comment. I may have been out of line because I don't know what the Applications looked like, just seems there had to be someone with more qualifications. JMO I wish Adam all the luck in the world.

Brossart Football has been a losing battle ever since we were realigned to 2-A. Prior to that we were chugging along and making progress - not setting the world on fire, but holding our own. 2A was a death sentence.

 

It is not our intention to have kids transfer to Brossart for football. However, the option is there for players who might not be able to start/compete at other area schools, to get an opportunity to do that and contribute at Brossart, especially in the future. Our intentions are to keep Brossart feeder kids, and especially kids from Brossart families here.

Everyone knows and Brossart people will not want to admit that the main reason to start a football program was with the hope to keep kids from going to NewCath to play. Everyone knows this! Obviously this is not working and the Brossart program is a mess. The real leaders at Brossart not people on this site should cut their lose now and say hey we tried it didnt work lets move on. Still a nice little school with a great basketball coach in Code. Problem solved its as easy as that. In 10 years nothing will change unless the Bishop ( who I just spoke with a little while ago) realizes with the cost of catholic education both schools could be having enrollment issues not to long down the road. Combine before both schools die. ( yes i know we have talked about this and i know his thoughts on this)Before that happens NewCath will be moved back to class A and put a but kicking on the Mustangs in district and things will still be the same for the Mustang football program. Mustang--I enjoy your posts 99.9% of the time ... but I can't let this one go for some reason.

 

Did you ever think that the real death sentence is that the kids in the program have heard adults from around the program constantly harp about the move to AA being a "death sentence".

 

I mean ... seriously .... it has to be hard for the kids to constantly hear how they were not good enough to compete in their truly aligned class.

 

Please ... stop complaining about moving to AA.

 

You were moved there based on the number of boys in your school. But .. instead of embracing it ... you have people who come on the internet .. and who are in the community who speak about moving up as a "death sentence".

 

My opinion ... is that there was a huge amount of arrogance when Brossart added football. That arrogance seems to still continue ... based on moving back to Class A next year. There are a ton of posts on this site when the program was started ... that have always left a bad taste in my mouth (where I got the impression that Brossart thought that they would compete immediately--which is cool--and I dig the confidence--but it doesn't work anymore when people complain about the move to AA). I fully admit that I could have taken that the wrong way ... but it certainly made me shake my head.

 

For the sake of the program ... all the adults need to quit whining about AA. Freaking embrace it as opposed to constantly blaming the move.

 

I still think Brossart can have a great program someday. Dan Ridder is the type of leader who will work tirelessly to ensure that things are handled properly. And I seriously doubt if he will but up with anymore whining about AA.

Maybe you all weren't ready for it but you gotta roll with the same punches that everyone else does. I think unfortunately, the problem is deeper than 2A. I really hope the program builds an prospers, good luck Stangs!

From the few times I saw Brossart, and what I know of the kids who play there, I believe a major part of the problem is that most or too many of them never play organized football until they reach high school. Basically you're sending young, undersized, inexperienced kids against veteran players. Hopefully, their middle school team will pay dividends.

Sad to see this happen to a program that so desperately needs some good things to happen. Howard probably needs to see through his thunder project a little further. Guess he wasn't ready to hand over reigns. Understood. But the issue is that it's added controversy to and ailing program that can ill afford any negative publicity. Good luck Stangs, hope you find the silver lining. P.S. your new addition to the school building is beautiful.

Is there anyone who believes there isn't enough talent in the building at Brossart to put a quality football team on the field? There is talent there. You have to get them into the program.

I think there's less talent every year. The past 2 years of success at Camp Co is coming at the expense of Brossart. More kids choosing Camp Co coming out of Brossart feeder schools due to $$$. And if $$$ isn't an issue, there's NCC and Highlands taking their cut off the top - If you're a good player, you gonna go to a struggling start-up or an established program?

I give credit to Campbell County's recent success on the football field to Coach Lickert; Brossart kids have nothing to do with the equation.

 

You might need to explain what "lock down that school" means to me regarding St. Joe's. It may be a "feeder" school for Brossart but that doesn't mean St. Joe kids automatically have to attend Brossart.

On a side note - there is a sign in front of Pfermann's Floors (down the street from St. Joe's) for NCC Junior Football sign ups. Where is Brossart's sign??? This tells me all I need to know about how serious Brossart is about "locking down that school".
