I feel sorry for Paul, no win situation here, doing whats right for the program, but could be a disaster.

That was a fast replacement. Why didn't they hire him to begin with.

Paul was the middle school coach last year. I bet he takes this promotion in stride and produces a season that builds some excitment heading into next season when Brossart will be back in 1A. While it looks like a mess, things are better than they seem and things are looking up at Brossart all around.

I haven't talked to Paul directly, but I believe that they did go to him initially and he declined and wanted to stay with the MS team and continue on what he has built up there. I respect that.

You are correct, Howard has decided to withdraw. No need to bash him for withdrawing or playing arm chair qb with who didn't get hired in the first place. The important thing is for the program to get past this year and build for 1a.

Well I guess Charlie Coleman's record for days as Head Coach at Brossart was just shattered.

I too received the E/Mail informing us that Coach Howard has "declined the position."

 

Paul Wiggins is our stop gap coach to get us through this year. He had every intention of coaching the Colts again this season, but volunteered to step in if the need arose. Well, the need arose and Paul will be in charge, while AD Adam Franzen will have more reasonable time to find a long-term replacement.

 

I still believe firmly that this football program has potential for the future, and that we can create a nice niche for ourselves at the 1-A level as part of the realigned district. I think too that it presents a coach with some vision to step into a better situation than it appears on the surface.

Agree with the highlighted, BUT I believe this next hire may make or break the program's future. This program, and most importantly the kids, desperately needs continuity in the staff, and not the revolving door that's been in place since its inception.

 

The future can be bright, but only with an enthusiastic and visionary staff that's in it for the longer haul (See Basketball, Soccer, Track, Baseball, etc.). Best of luck to the Mustangs this season, and to AD Franzen on this next hire!!

I think that Dan Ridder, our principal, will be pro-active in showing a desire for the football program to succeed.

 

While the former principal was conservativly cautious and had hangups about spending money on athletics, Ridder will see the potential for the program and strive to develop it. I've always said that if Bob Rowe had become our principal, the Gilbert Ridge property would already be developed. There would be a practice/scrimmage field in place, along with a track, storage facilities and section of stands. His goal would have been to duplicate the football/soccer facilities in place at the Sharp Middle School, and knowing Bob, would have gotten it done.

 

Mr. Ridder has some catching up to do, but we were able to raise 8 mil for the new addition, with only a fraction of that going towards renovation of the gym. I feel that with a sincere effort the additional funding can be raised to do what is needed at Gilbert Ridge. This of course, would also benefit soccer and track.

Sheesh, you hate to see this turn comical. Brossart, will have to step up next year and make a statement hire at any cost or close up shop.

Brossart is in a huge credibility struggle in the program. They cannot afford false start announcements like this one. Regardless of what the reason may be for the announcement and then withdrawal, they need to get it right. This announcement/withdrawal creates more doubt in the program and they cannot afford that.

In dont umderstand why even offer a a guy with no high school coaching experience only per wee with not winning a game this job. Impossible for a program to survive let alone grow like that. Awful work by Brossart. Feel bad for the 20 kids who actually want to play.
