Bishop Brossart Hires New Football Coach

I was just looking online, and KHSAA's website is still showing some openings in Brossart's schedule. Are they really still looking at an 8 game season (including one game against a non-KHSAA Pendleton County team)?

Any wins in there?

Any wins in there?

Let's see if any of Brossart's high level athletes are among those that committed to play. If yes, there could be a win or two in there. As I have said before, there is no doubt in my mind there is plenty of talent in the school to put a winning football team on the field.

You are so right about that! I can throw up a list of names right off the top of my head.

Let me ask you this, if you were one of those high level athletes (from another sport) would you risk playing football under the current circumstances?

I don't know their personnel, but you only have 4 years of high school. Everyone should do as much as they can. The pluses of playing far outweigh losing games.

Any athlete with a primary other sport such as basketball or baseball or track would have to be cautious about joining a football team that has less than 20 members ans goes thru coaches like water.

Both are excellent points.

It was two exciting years for the program, especially after going 0-20 the first two varisty years. It wasnt an arrogance it was more hopefullness that they were heading in the right direction. The walton program was started the right way from the bottom up and i think that is one reason for their success. Where as brossart started from the top down and has hit a major speed bump.

As for 2A i wont blame the down turn on that alone but a brand new program like that the move to 2A knocked the wind out of the progam in a way. Our boys who were on the fence about playing football, seeing that the level of competion made a dramatic jump got scared and didnt play.

I have read all of the post on this thread and see the moving to 2A argument. But what never gets brought up as a major turning point early for this program is 2 things.

1. The administration has never really backed the program 100%. Even after the 2 respectful years they still didn't buy in.

2. The mass exodus of the coaching staff following the 2010 year, when they made the playoff's. Things were headed in the right direction. But from the following year to the present. The program as dropped off considerably.

JMHO

What is the risk?

What is the risk?

Unless one of those athletes are going on to play high level college in the other sports, there is really very little risk.

What is the risk?

Seriously? High level athlete on a team with less than 20 members means you are going to be on the field an awful lot (likely playing both ways) playing teams that are a lot deeper. You are going to be beat up physically and possibly injured at some point. If basketball is your primary sport you are going to miss some practice time. You will take longer to get your "basketball legs" or "baseball arm or swing" back.

Almost every team that they will play has kids predominately going both ways. It's not like they have huge schools on their schedule.

This view, which is shared by people at Brossart, Brossart parents and potential players and is consistently echoed around the kids, is why football at Brossart is behind the 8 ball.

Then why continue to operate a sport that ranks 3rd or 4th in the school?
