Folks who don't accelerate on ramps when merging onto an interstate. We can't do this at 35 miles per hour, Hazel.

 

Folks who remain in the right lane on an interstate when they approach an on ramp. Sometimes because of traffic it's unavoidable. But normally it's not. Get over.

 

Folks who don't turn right on red. Drives me crazy and it happens to me all the time.

 

Folks who don't scrape the snow/ice off their rear window (or in some cases off part of their windshield). I feel good about sharing the interstate with you, and don't think you are the least bit lazy. You are probably a well trained driver.

These threads on driving etiquette and rants really crack me up. What is ironic for most of us (myself included), is that the shoe can easily be on the other foot, meaning we can be guilty of the same or similar actions depending on the time of day, our mood, our stress, and if we are in a hurry to get somewhere. Lately, I have been trying to get in a better frame of mind when driving. I don't have to forgive or understand idiotic driving, but I realize that I need to be control of my emotions enough so as not to make a bad situation even worse. No sense becoming a statistic.

I'm not sure why people think they should "police" the morons who drive on the shoulder. You have no idea what their situation is - maybe it's an emergency; maybe they are just jerks. Why don't you let the real cops handle those people and worry about your spot in line.

And the people who don't let others merge? Is it really going to hurt you to just be kind and let them over?

I have no driving etiquette. Zero.

Or the ultimate butt munch who thinks he doesn't need to wait in traffic during a traffic jam and cruises by you on the shoulder. I love catching them early in my side mirror so I can pull half my car onto the shoulder and half in the lane so he gets stuck.

Drivers that come to a complete stop to turn right when it's not necessary.

 

Drivers who treat yield signs as stop signs.

 

Drivers who are trying to turn left on a green light but refuse to pull into the intersection.

I don't like competitive drivers. We all drive to get somewhere. The concept is to stay in the flow of traffic and help it along. I appreciate the person who let me over to the left lane on I-64 this morning as I was coming up on a slower truck in the right hand lane. In return, I sped up, got around the truck and got back over in the right-hand lane so the driver could continue on. I also don't like drivers who are so bent on keeping the speed limit that they become discourteous and hold up traffic in doing so. It is not my or anyone else's business if someone wants to do a few miles over the speed limit. Lastly, I have seen this on BGP before, but curses to the semi driver who pulls in the passing lane to pass another semi either: 1) right before going up a hill or; 2) going the same speed as the truck they are passing.

Line cutters really tick me off, as many have said before.

 

If you pull in front of me while I'm in the fast lane, and you are going at or below the speed limit, prepare for me to tailgate you until you get out of the left lane...

 

The people who speed up to keep you from merging or switching lanes when you had plenty of room to do it, yeah, there's a special place for those people. A very warm place.

 

Not driving with the flow of traffic really burns me up as well. Sure there are speed limits, but if you are the only guy going 5 under, you need to speed up or get out of the way. That is dangerous.

 

The NASCAR guy who whips in and out of traffic, and then you beat him to the exit by driving normal. I laugh at those guys every time, usually wave as I go by.

 

Probably my biggest pet peeve is people who don't use Cruise Control on open stretches of road, and then look at you like you're the weirdo when you pass them five times in 10 miles. It's there for a reason, use it.

As an example, if you're in the left lane on the highway and I'm in the right and I'm catching up to a truck really quickly, common sense says I want to get in the left lane. Speed up or slow down. If you do neither and are just clueless, I wait for you to do something..if you are texting, you get the bumper. Don't feel guilty either.

People that drive in others' blind spot deserve to be run off the road, IMO.
