Sorry to be the burden of bad news, but EKU has had field turf for about 2, maybe 3 seasons now. And yeah it is centally located compare to WKU or any other venues out there. Unless we want to play at Georgetown College or other smaller sites.

I was not aware of that, my bad. Why not have a championship in the Lexington area? Those Lexington teams have to travel for every championship. :eek::puke:

As far as goal post width, it does not matter IMO, both teams are playing with the exact same dimensions, it is equal, no one has an advantage. Both teams have the same opportunity to miss or make field goals based on the exact same dimensions. When Trinity & X bring in temporary goal posts, it's for 5th through 8th graders, big difference, they're usually lucky to make 50% on the wide goal posts, that's why they bring them in.

I hate to bust your bubble and your little attitude, no wait I don't hate it. This has been argued before. Elizabethtown is the closest town to the geographic center of Kentucky. They do not have a stadium. Louisville and Bowling green are north and south of E-town and do have stadiums. Both are almost equal distance for every football school in Kentucky. Last year the difference for all 12 teams participating was about 5 miles average between the 2. The math has been done. EKU is not even close.

WKU is the best venue in the state to hold the state football finals. That is kinda hard to argue.

I don't agree with that at all. The field itself is great but the locker room or lack of doesn't suit the event very good if you ask me. When teams getting ready to play while a game is going on and have to change on the bus etc. or wherever they can find privacy is bad.

 

It's far from the best venue in the state if you ask me.

 

No one will ever convince me that Georgetown isn't a better facility and venue than WKU.

I'd just soone be kicked between the legs than go to Richmond, and it doesn't even have anything do with distance. Obviously there is Lex and Louisville, then everybody else (BG, Owensboro, Paducah, NKY, E-town, Richmond, etc) and Richmond is at the bottom of those IMO (which means nothing).

 

It's not half the town BG is. Matter of fact, it's not what E-town is and is constantly becoming

Love the chance to visit BG and WKU so I like that it's staying put. Georgetown would be an interesting location but that would be pretty darn far for the Western KY teams. It has to be about 5 hours for Mayfield, isn't it?

I don't like it at all. I believe that if it could be worked out (and I think that it could) a rotation of sites would be the most fair to all areas of the State, not just one or two sections. Maybe at Bowling Green to Richmond (EKU)/Lexington (UK)/ Morehead, Louisville, Williamsburg (college-Cumberlands) just to name some possibilities for a rotating venue. That would imo make the championships more accessible to fans in different areas of the state. An example of what I am saying would be that with myself living near Ashland in the NEKY part of the state, it is quite a distance to Bowling Green, would more than likely require a two night stay to take in all games. Richmond / Lexington / Pikeville would be much closer and more possible to attend the finals w/o the long approx. 7hr drive to the opposite end of the state, longer for people in the far EKY sections.

Nope and I've been saying they should since the Fairgrounds days. They did paint HS hash marks down on the turf at the Fairgrounds and should at WKU. There is special paint for Field Turf that can be completely removed.

 

As much as anything and everything KHSAA related is complained about on here why is this different? I KNOW that people from the KHSAA do monitor this site so maybe I am addressing it to them through here.

 

Because I don't know if anyone on here can properly answer your question. I f anyone is going to make the change or address the issue it would have to be KHSAA wouldn't it?

I say put it in Richmond. That's a 30 minute drive for me. I'd go to all the games. Richmond!!!!!!

How about a rotation of Morehead, Eastern, Western, and Murray?

Both teams have to deal with the same goal posts, so I don't see it as that big of a problem.

But it is not the rules the kids are playing under. What about a field that is 40 yards wide? It's the same for both teams.

 

With respect to hash marks, correct me if I'm wrong but aren't a lot of defensive alignments and offensive pass patterns based on the hash marks? It seems that using the college hash marks would throw them out of kilter. Finally, regarding the goal post width, don't forget about extra points. I've seen many an extra point kick barely make it in on college width. They would not have been good with HS width.

Don't they shorten the Rupp floor for the Sweet 16, seems like I heard that in the past.

 

I thought the same thing. I did some research and at one time, they did. It's been well over 10 years since they've done that. They now play on the full college length floor.
