State Football Finals locked in at WKU through 2018

Featured Replies

Bowling Green is holding on to the Gridiron Bowl Championship weekend through 2018. :irked:

I am guessing no other cities bid to host the state football championships. :bag: Bowling Green did not retain the Girls Basketball Championship game, so the KHSAA was open to change after all. :sour:

WKU is the best venue in the state to hold the state football finals. That is kinda hard to argue.

Whoever hosts the finals should be "persuaded" to install temporary goal posts at high school width. It is wrong to play your entire season on one width and then have the championship played on another width. This has been a pet peeve of the championships since college narrowed their posts many years ago.

And before anyone complains about cost, Trinity bought a temporary set of goal posts that they use for the CSAA Toy Bowl. They use them for 3 games once a year. It is doable.

I guess they should install a new turf field with high school hash marks as well. :irked:

Agreed. Unless Etown or Louisville wanted to build a 15 - 20K seat Fargo (similar) Dome, then BG is the best of both worlds when you talk about the most centralized town with the best facilities (not that WKU is better than UL or UK, but the stadium capacity gives the best atmosphere no doubt).

I was a critic of WKU holding the championships until I actually went in 2012 for the Trinity PRP 6A Final and I have to say that the atmosphere was more electric than it had ever been at Papa Johns Cardinal Stadium. The stadium size to me was perfect for the venue and way louder than PJCS. PJCS is just too big & looks almost empty when the Championships are there, especially after seeing the difference when at WKU. Even though the 2.5 hr drive is a little bit of a pain from Louisville, it isn't too bad especially if it's to go win a State Title.

If it takes you 2.5 hrs to get to BG from Louisville you have a serious driving problem. It is less than 2 hrs every time I have ever driven it.

Ok, I stand corrected, 2 hrs, good grief, it's still 2 hrs further than when it was here, lol, that wasn't my point..... :ohbrother:

OR paint the high school has marks.

Totally agree. We would never stand for a 3 point line that was different in the playoffs versus the regular season.

It can't be that tough to have an adjustable or separate set of goal posts.

Is a high school basketball court the same dimensions as a college court (e.g., Rupp Arena)?

Nope!

If you're going Louisville to Bowling Green in less than two hours, you have a lead foot and you should get that thing looked at...

Just wondering, has a championship game been decided by a missed field goal that was less that yard left or right wide since the games went to WKU?

If not what is the big deal? Goal post are essentially a little less than a yard tighter on each side form HS dimensions.
