Montgomery Inn...overrated?

Featured Replies

Saw a couple of comments on my ribs thread that alluded to this. I have only eaten here once, about 3 years ago. It was really talked up before hand. I got some sort of bbq sampler platter that had several of their offerings on it. I have to say...I was VERY underwhelmed. I won't go as far as to say it was bad, but I definitely wouldn't classify it as good. Can't really recall what I thought about the sauce, just kept thinking how much I was paying for food that I didn't think was all that good.

So, is MI overrated?

Agreed. It was ok but not worth what I paid.

We go 3-4 times a year and really like it. We know what we are going to pay before we go and believe it is worth the price. As always, to each their own.

I think it's great and love the boathouse but that is my opinion.

I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I ate there. Could be potentially since I was like 12.

I do love their pulled pork that I've had at a catered event before though.

If you like the ribs where the meat falls off, they are very good.

Sauce is a little sweet for me, and they are over pirced.

I go about 1.5 times per year.

I like their sauce . But for the most part their ribs are overrated and not worth the price.

I can't say anything bad about Montgomery Inn except they do seem pricey. I've had better....and worse. I give them a 6.5 for food quality.

I go 3-4 times a year. Never get the ribs. Very solid chicken, and great fish IMO. Do like the sauce, onion straws, and Saratoga chips though.

I think most people are turned off by the price. My wife and I go every few months and spend around $50 that's not bad for good food.

It's just ok to me, and not worth the price. I've been a couple of times and while the food is good, it is certainly in my mind overpriced. I like the Boathouse location for the atmosphere, but won't go out of my way to go there. If I want good barbecue, I'm driving to Fairfield and eating at Smoq.

My dad loves it. I'm not as much of a ribs guy, but when I get them, they better be falling off the bone. The sauce is really good when served heated. If it's not heated... I mean.... It's just another BBQ sauce...

I do really like their shrimp with the plum sauce.

I think it's kinda a thing where you pay for the experience.

I found the ribs to be above average. Nothing to write home to Mom about, though. I have been to very few restaurants that have lived up to the hype.

Its possible I may have sold them a bit short? The bbq I found to be wanting, but their other offerings may be very tasty, but only eating their once I have not tried anything else. Unfortunately because of my underwhelming first experience, don't know if I'd give them a second look knowing I could go to other places and be better satisfied and probably for less money in many instances.

Do they do a good steak? Someone above said they have good fish.
