You see how ignorant my last post sounded? Now do you realize how making a big deal out of Chelsea being pregnant for your imagined campaign reasons sounds? Oh btw, Hillary hasn't even announced she's running for President in 2016 so your concerns may all be for naught.

 

If the Clinton's were a Republican family, I doubt you would have started this thread. But since they are Democratic, you see an opportunity (and I use that term lightly because you are stretching it on this subject) to blast them. Not everything in this world is red v blue. Sometimes, including in this case, it's just about what's doing best for yourself and your family, and obviously Chelsea and her husband feel having a child is what's best for them. You may want to say it's convenient that she's having a child while her mom is a presidential candidate but as others have pointed out, she is 34 currently. By the time the election is over, she will be 36, almost 37. It may only be 2 1/2 more years, but as a woman gets older, the chances of a successful pregnancy get smaller, so why should she wait and take those chances?

The name change thing is silly, especially if you are a "Known" person before getting married.

No, I did not. I had a 4th grade teacher who told us the only reason women took a man's last name was - like slaves - to signify a change in ownership. Say whatever you want, but that stuck with me. My husband FULLY supported my decision.

I did. Never occurred to me to do otherwise. I also kept it after the divorce....but that decision definitely was given much thought.

Children of politicians, celebrities, etc. should be off limits. Leave Chelsea alone and let her raise her family.

Ahh yes, you are absolutely right. Bristol did take some heat, as there was a 5 page thread on BGP about it. Although it was a little bit of a different circumstance, as Bristol was a teen, unmarried mother, which kind of goes against the conservative platform. But it looks for the most part, posters came to the same conclusion as they have here. And really, that should have been off limits too, as her pregnancy had no bearing on Palin's ability to perform the job either.

I have no idea about the money it costs. My reasoning had to do with how young my kids were and the whole mess that life was after the divorce. There was enough conflict and and confusion for them without the whole "mom has a different name" thing. The icing on the cake, though, was that my ex said that I wasn't "worthy" of having that name. So....I definitely kept the name.
